FE VS FC for an amature rider...

Okay. I am ready to purchase a new bike. I have my eye on a couple of possibilities. one is an 05 FC and the other is an 05 FE. The FC is used and much cheaper. (hence my interest) my question is are the diffrences in the gear ratios that much that it would make a big diffreence to the average amature rider such as myself?
my last bike was an FC so i really have nothing to compare against. also can some one confirm that the 05 FC was e-start.

FC models (the ones we imported) are four speeds and kick start only. Based on your location, I'm guessing that you might be looking at Dave Harrell's demo bike, and I think he might have made it a six speed. Great bike, fast and nimble - you might PM Bozarth to find out about the plusses and minuses. If you don't need lights, the button, or a green sticker, then FC's are great. Yep, that's right - red sticker bike.

Questions, please let me know.

Cheers,

Brett Saunders

Well, the FC could have an e-start or not. Also could be a 4 speed or 6 speed. The only sure thing is stiffer suspension. What will you be using the bike for?

If it's Mark Johnson's bike, I think it's still a four speed. But I could be wrong :)

Cheers again,

Thanks guys, answered all my questions... I was going off of my knowledge of the 02 fc470 that i owned 6 speed e-start...

FE it is..

FE's the better bike for the non-racer. however the saving can be invested in doing things to it like softening the sussies, gearing change etc.

so is it a 4 or 6 speed?

is it leccy boot?

it's nice to be important but it's equally important to be nice! :D :D

The FC is a 4 speed-sans the hot button. from what he said it sounds like a nice bike... and the guy is parting with it for cheap... My last FC had the hot button... but i always kicked it... I became very adept and making sure it was dialed in right so I could start it easily via kick.. mainly because half the time it would not start of the button at altitude.

how difficult/expensive is it to swap ot the gears and make it a six speed... I am an amature mechanic..

kind of mute point becasue the main reason i sold my 02 was so I could get a model with the Kukosan ignition and the kehin carb... but if i cant find an FE for the right price very soon then i may jump on this if the gear changing thing is not to difficult.

any of you arizona bergs near Waddell AZ,? could I convince you to go and look at the bike for me if I needed you to?

i believe that both boxes share the same first, second, third and fourth.

Taffy, that is correct, the 05 FC/Fe models share the same 4 lower gears. The Fc models have the 5th and 6 th gears on one shaft but only spacers on the other shaft. The engine has to be split to add the two gears and one shift fork assy.BOSS posted the part#'s required for this job not long ago and I believe he had them in stock as well.

So since i spend most of my time in 2 and 3 then it really would not be any different than an FE.. unless i wanted to get going REALLY fast...

I guess I was under the impression that the lower gearing was diff4rent enough that i would be constantly hunting for the right gear on the single track and that I would be unable to "just leave it in second and tractor through the muck"

would replacing the clutch with a revloc be a viable option?

ol risky's going to be busy being kanucks and brits beers on that next big force ride!

OH CRAP! that little bit about the bike being a RED STICKER in CA just jumped out at me... THAT WILL NOT DO. so sorry for wasting everyone's time... I have to have a green sticker..

again FE IT IS!

Risky1,

That is a pretty far drive for me but if you are truly interested and need someone to check it for you I would do it, just don't have me driving an hour across town if your not ready to buy a bike. PM Berger and see if he knows anything about this bike also, This is his neck of the woods and also the turf of Phx only Husaberg dealer. Ken spends alot of time down at the shops and knows alot of people. Maybe he could give you a little background on this bike???

Regards.

No need sandskipper, I have to have a greensticker.... and I really do want the e-start and 6 speeds... I have just been unable to ride for so long... I was just getting all excited and had husabeergoggles on... ready to take anything that remotely resembles what i really want...
