Fe 650 engine problems

Hi Guys,

Been a long time since i have been in the Husaberg world. i originally bought an Fe 400 2002 around 8 years ago, subsequently blew that up, then replaced the engine with a rebuilt 650 from DCR. thats where the problems start...

So the engine came around 6 years ago, and from the off it had a couple issues. Badly smoking and a nasty knocking noise, the engine went back and had a new barrel sleeve and was checked over. It came back and the smoking had got a lot better, but there was still a bad knocking noise and shavings in the oil.

At that point i gave up, I have 2 other bikes and with work etc the Husaberg got put the back of the garage.

Fast forward 6 years and I now have a decent sized workshop to tinker in so decided it was time to investigate what was going on.

Ive had the case off and inspected everything obvious, all looks ok apart from the kickstart area, it seems the back of the kickstart mech has been hitting the casing and i'm guessing that was where the noise and shavings are coming from.

Question is, why would this be happening and what can i do to rectify it?

pics to follow..

Thanks in advance

Ryan

I'm sure someone with be along soon to suggest why that part seems to be fouling, perhaps to much end float in the shaft? Missing shims from when it's been assembles etc?
But I would suggest whilest that casing is off and that area stripped, fit the kick-start sledge mod sold by taffmeisters. Maybe that will improve clearances also?

Thanks Spuddy18, thats not a bad shout, anything else I should really get done whilst i'm in there?

Maybe the clutch basket and plates mod? Helps in getting neutral and makes for a better clutch overall I suppose. Look up taffmeisters.co.uk and search them on Facebook. Loads of videos on there explaining various mods. I'm working my way through them when money allows! [emoji23]

last month I checked a 650 husaberg engine over from the north-east (so a small world hey!) and we thought we could hear it everywhere in the engine. we tried rockers/top end then the kickstart area, we could feel a rumble from there but in the end it was the R/H main.

see if you haven't got a steel ring behind the primary gear and the oil seal will not be on the 25mm of the crank but on the 40mm of the bull ring.

cheers

Taffy
