FE 550 - KTM Muffler Swap, Suspension Valving

I've recently acquired an '07 Husaberg FE550, couple of upgrade questions...

I find it difficult to find aftermarket mufflers for the Berg. As the muffler is a KTM part (model K 620) does that mean that any aftermarket muffler that replaces the K 620 for a KTM (eg 525 exc) will fit the Berg?

Does anyone supply aftermarket suspension valving for the Berg tested and ready to install? Race Tech says they don't have enough demand specifically for the Berg although lots of KTM stuff. I'm guessing a WP KTM kit would work although not sure if there are differences in lever ratio etc that would make the Berg's valving different.

Many thanks,

AB

It's hard to make recommendations on suspension tuners, when we don't know where you are from. We have members from lots of different countries here, so filling out your profile with a location is helpful.

If you are from the USA, there are many tuners that work on Husaberg suspension, Dicks, Slavens (in Colorado), and Trailtrick ( California) are just a few. I wouldn't put Race Tech stuff in anything I own, regardless of bike brand, but that is my opinion.

I wouldn't use KTM spec valving stacks in a Husaberg either, especially in the rear shock. Leverage angle is too different.

On mufflers, Akropovich makes them for Husaberg. Honestly though, the stock unit, though a bit heavy, flows just fine. All you will be adding with an aftermarket muffler is more noise.

"berg suspension

Hi, Johnf3....
Factory Connection does WP suspension. Their USA headquarters is in New Hampster, about 60 miles from here. I had both front and rear done to make my fc easier to ride Maine woods and trails. Heck of a difference!!
They just opened a west coast shop in Corona, California. Corporate P# is 1-866-433-5531. Web site ishttp://www.factoryconnection.com Might get in touch with them as I don't recall if they sell components or not.

Thanks guys. I'm in Canada so I'll be able to contact Factory Conection up here. I guess I was wondering if there are any drop in kits I could do myself like many of the Race Tech kits as opposed to sending it stuff away. Just for interest JohnF3 why don't you like Race Tech stuff? I find there are so many opinions on suspension tuners it all gets very confusing. That being said I've had my KTM SX200 outfitted with MX Tech stuff (progressive spring, valving, etc) and the difference was fantastic so I'm looking for the same type of stuff for the Berg. I've heard that the Race Tech telescoping compression valve really helps WP shocks for example.

Re the muff would look for a quiet one just looking for some bling factor to go with the aluminum tank and like you mention less weight.

Cheers,

AB

Race Tech markets a telescoping needle for the WP shock. It's not a valve. The needle they market was designed by a suspension tuner in Austrailia, I believe, and the rights to distribute in the USA were bought by RT.

If you like MX Tech stuff, call Jeremy Wilkey up and see if they have done any Husaberg suspension. He did one of my MX bikes (a Yamaha) before his company got big, and it was fantastic.

I bought a used yz 250 for my son that had Race Tech Gold Valves and their valving stacks installed. It was the worst suspension I ever rode, and the stock KYB stuff that comes on the Japanese bikes is generally very good. The tech help that I tried to get from Race Tech was bad too. Basically non-existent.

mr wilkey admitted to me that they know nowt about husaberg suspension. he was being honest. who DOES know - truthfully?

it takes one rider with ability and trust from the company to work on a shock and then it has to be in the last 24 months or its out of date again!

i have the '08 shim and piston specs if you want to do your own shock.

regards

Taffy
