FE 550 2005 starter problem

Hi all,

I've been searching the forum a bit but I want a bit more clarity. As title says I have a 550FE 2005 which on last ride the starter just died. It semmed to be the battery at first because the starter kinda slowly died (getting weaker). So what I tried was following:

- Charged battery
- Hooked up another 12v battery to the current

But with no luck. The battery seemed fine so i disconnected the starter for a closer look. I followed the instructions from the handbook and connected a 12v battery directly with jumping cables to the starter but nothing happened. So I open the starter and cleaned a bit. Then I redid the test but now sparks fly as if it's "short circuit". Is this good or bad? But still the starter doesn't turn at all.

What do you think my options are? Just by a new one or maybe a repair kit?

sounds like your current problem is an improper reassembly. you've put it together wrong. i'm guessing a carbon brush wire is touching the case.
original problem was possibly corrosion or bad crimps on cables.
how many hours or miles?
