FE 501e auto decomp ??

I have a 9th month 1998 FE 501e That I think has been converted to a auto decomp system. I removed the rocker cover to repair an oil leak and noticed the manual decomp arm and cable missing and the hole plugged in the rocker cover. On further investigation I noticed that the cam shaft sprocket has a spring loaded arm and shaft that runs to the exhaust lobe. The workshop manual I have for my model bike only shows a manual decomp system with a cable. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is a common thing to be done and if it is reliable. I have only just purchased the bike and I am new to this forum. Any feed back would be appreciated. 8)

Hello BITE-ME,

Welcome to the UHE.

My 2000 FE501E has both decomp systems, the spring loaded counter weight system and the manual system (which has been removed from your bike).

I have over 10,000 miles on the bike and both have been 100 % reliable .

In our downloads section, you will find the 2000 owners & parts, and the 1999 Work Shop manuals you can download for free for the 1999 and 2000 Husabergs.

The 1999 Work Shop Manual is for the 2000 model also.

The parts in the decomp system are described in the manuals.

Regards,

Joe

I do not think the -98 electric starters had a manual decomp at all. The kick starter only models had them.

My 98 501, NO electric start, has an auto decomp on the camshaft, the bob weight thing and a manual one that also is activated by the kick start. I removed the manual one as it never got used. 30,000 km, no worries.

Steve
