Fe 501 no start

Hello all
I'm new here and I am looking for some help please
I have a 501 fe 2003 it does not appear to have power to the coil
Can anyone tell me which wire is the power feed
Also when I check the starter off the bike it spins
The correct way but when it's on the bike it seems
To spin backwards ?
This bike is driving me nuts please help

Hi
I turned ignition on and checked each wire no power to any wire

The side case of the engine was taken off and the idle cog just spins but if I turn the
Starter spline the other way it turns the engine

You will not have power unless the bike is tuning over these bikes do not work like a normal car ignition. As mentioned do some reading your pry better of checking for spark with the plug out of the bike. And also the SEM stator can be checked quickly using a ohm meter

The electric start on the old bergs is a restarter and will not work like you want it to with out some tweaking. Look in the owner docs there are fixes and diagrams for all these issues you described

do you mean the little access cover on the right side of the engine opposite of there the starter is? is held in with threes bolts? if so this would be normal, it would be part connected to the sprague clutch and is ment to freewheel one way then start the engine the other way....i think it was still like this in 2003, i would disreguard info reguarding the direction the starter spins......

so basically i gather from all that is said the main problem is that there is no spark? like spencergt66 says i would also ohm test the stator first for a no spark condition, ohm values can be found by searching and in the owner doc.

Does a 2013 FE501 require a battery to stay running?:furious:

Of course it needs a good battery to start, or a kick starter, but if you remove the B+, should it stay running?
