I have a new 2013 fe501 with 600km on the clock. the last 2 rides I found the bike would shut down. I traced the fault to the fuel pump shutting down I assume when it gets hot. It is at the dealers at the moment. Just want to know if anyone out there has had the same problem

Lots of us on here have had issues with fuel pumps but this is first i have heard with the new bikes. I have been led to believe that they fixed this problem from the 2011 bikes onwards and am myself awaiting the arrival of a replacement pump from Husaberg Australia for my 2010 FE570. I will be keen to hear the outcome of your problem!

just had this happen on the ktm 350 freeride. The bike was definitely hot but not overheating. the fuel pump fuse was tripping. took tank off and noticed that the connector was not completely watertight and there was a bit of moisture there, but didn't seem like enough to cause a short. after an hour of sitting i replaced the fuse and it started right up. Thinking it must be a heat issue as well.

just looked up the part no. the freeride and fe501 share the same pump.

let me know if you find out more....
were you blowing fuses?

The bike is still at the dealers. Been there since 8th april. They have diagnosed it with a faulty pump. I am still waiting for a new pump. They say I should get it on Tuesday. No fuse blew when it failed, it just stopped pumping. I removed the quick couple and with a screwdriver depressed the check valve while pressing the start button, no fuel came out . 20 minutes later I tried the same exercise and it pumped, that is why I suspected the fuel pump.
Will keep you posted once I get it back.

Have not heard from them yet. I dont want to push them too hard otherwise they may just put in another pump without actually finding out the cause and I will be stuck with the same problem in a few months. Will give them a call today. Will keep you posted.

no probs so far bout 500km touch wood, also my bro has a ktm 500 and has been fine too he has over 1200km

After a bit of HUFF and PUFF I finally got a answer from my dealer. apparently the warranty claim had been approved by Husaberg ,but someone forgot to tell someone else. The new pump was to be sent straight away and i should get my bike back tomorrow. They will be replacing with the same pump as they apparently have not had any other problems with the current pump. This is what I was afraid of.So I guess i will see how long it lasts.

see if you can get a hold of your old pump to check its dimensions, I'm guessing that the older pumps are the same, just a different part number...in which case u could buy a reserve knock off pump. I'm going to ride the 350 in some slow stuff to see if i can recreate my pump fail. I would sign a contract with the dealer to extend your fuel pump warranty so that if/when it fails again that you are covered... tank wrap might also keep the temp down. does the 501 come with a factory installed fan?

The 501 does come with a fan. I doubt if it is a heat issue as the first time it failed I had only ridden 10km. will be fetching the bike tomorrow and will try get the old pump.Wont bother trying to do the contract thing. If it fails I will find a better pump .

Yeah i agree, im still waiting for my new pump to arrive. They told me two weeks, been a month now and nothing, not even a call! Will hit them up shortly and find out where it is! If this new one fails like the old one i wont even bother again, will just buy an aftermarket pump to replace it and forget about it! Maybe this is what they want us to do?!!!

I have been away working for over a month now but about a week ago i called the dealer to see if my pump had arrived. Turns out somebody had forgot to tell somebody in my case too! Once they got onto my claim and figured out it had been given the go ahead by Husaberg Australia i had my pump within four days! I picked it up today after arriving home last night. Gunna go fit it shortly and will be riding again tomorrow, hooray!!!! Im glad i rang them when i did!
