FE 400 02' battery charging - YTZ14S

I´m changing the standard battery to an YTZ14S, and off course changing it to under the seat, to fit.
In 2002 the wiring has one yellow connected to a regulator, and to the lights and horn, so not charging the battery.
The other yellow a regulator/rectifier, and to the battery and start relay.
I want to connect both yellows to the regulator/rectifier to recharge the battery faster.
Does anyone know if this regulator/rectifier is good enough to both yellows (70W+70W) ??
Does anyone tried it ??
I´m attaching the 2002 wiring.

Thanks

I have no idea off the top of my head but the 03 model has the configuration (full DC power) you are trying to duplicate so.................if you check the part numbers for the 02 and 03 reg/rec and they are the same then the answer is yes.

Please post some pics when you are done as I am going to go with full DC on my 97 and need all the help I can get.

That YTZ14s is one heavy battery. Have you seen the Lith-ion battery thread?

why would you need more battery to start a 400? are you planning to put in a major sound system? some rallye lamps? i can see going from the 5 to perhaps a 7 amp battery, but a 14? what is the reason you want to go that big?
if it is just to start the engine, then you need to do the upgrades to the autodecomp and the smaller battery will do fine. even going to a total dc system like the '03 will be ok with the smaller bat.
as far as the charge rate is concerned, the single yellow will be more than adequate no matter what battery you use.
i think relocating the battery box is a good idea because i am of the opinion that in its current position its too prone to vibration damage to the cells.

The biggest question that I had was if I would need both yellows to charge the battery or not, so thanks Ned for your answer.
Regarding the size of the battery I thought if I can put a biger one it would not hurt, its not the differrence in wheight thats going to give me trouble.
Husabutt, regarding the part numbers I've checked and they are diferent in 02 and 03, in 03 you have the part 180123-01-Voltage Regulator/rectifier03 and in 02 you have 180172-01-Rectifier01 and 180019-01-Regulator89.
It is more confusing because in the parts manual it only says Rectifier and in the diagrams it says regulator/rectifier, and I don't know what its right.
Concerning yor 97, I'm doing the same in my 98 FE600E, and when I finish (and if it works !) I will send you all the results.
Thanks

my opinion is if you solve the problems that were built into the '01-02 motors, your standard size battery will be ok. if you try to overcome them with more battery power, you may just expose an expensive problem in the mechanical parts of the starter system.
as far as the difference between the 02 and 03 electrics: the 02 uses a seperate regulator and rectifier, the 03 is all in one.
