Fe 390 Throttel to start

Bike: 2010 Fe 390

Modifications: Slip-on muffler, 570 air box, mapping switch (on #1/traction), and Crank case hose is disconnected from air box.

My attempts to resolve: new plug, fresh gas, new air filter, and new battery

Problem: Has always needs just a touch of throttle to start.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

It should start without touching the throttle. First thing I would do is check the "choke". Make sure it is off. Try starting it, if it doesn't start, then open the choke and try again. Once the bike is running, make sure the choke is off....let the bike run and check the idle speed. Adjust if neccesary.

Only when engine is hot the 390 needs a very very little throtle to start. You have to live with it.

Re: Fe 390 Throttle to start

When cold on first start up - my bike (2010 FE390) starts at first push of the button first time, every time and no throttle.

But when hot, ALWAYS needs a little throttle to start - this problem went away when I changed the spark plug and thought it was gone for good, but returned a couple of rides later - needs throttle when hot.

I have my map switch on the mild 'traction' setting too - no other 'engine related' mods.

I havn't ever had my bike serviced at the dealer and wonderred if there was a map update perhaps to solve this - it is not a problem really, just a quirk...
