fe 390 fault code 2

Having problems with my new berg, as follows:

Will start from cold no problem, once engine is run hot it struggles to restart the only way to get it to restart is to turn engine idle screw two clicks anti clockwise.

Did first xc race on berg at weekend and when it runs very hot (very muddy slow course) it will only start when you pull the engine idle out (choke), it was also flashing fault code 2 which is the ignition pulse generator circuit. this fault clears when engine cools a bit.

Checked wiring which is all ok. Bike runs fine otherwise, have been advised to check my valve clearances before my dealer contacts husaberg uk as they have never heard of this problem.

Engine has only done 9 hours.

I would take it to my dealer but they are a few hundred miles from me so I want to try rectify this problem myself.

Any ideas please, this is really starting to get annoying!

many thanks

On a cheap and cheerful fix try a new plug as there was a case here that seems similar and was traced to a hair line crack in the porcelain of the plug.

worth a try.

Cheers, will try a new plug too. One thing I did notice which may be connected, laid the bike on it's side to wash it, there was a small amount of fuel which had leaked out. Is this normal?

There is a new map for this bike version 2 which is designed to help start the bike with no throttle like all the other EFI models. You will need to take it to a Husaberg dealer and have it put on the diagnostics and re-flash a new map.

Ahh right thanks midwest.

Is that the reason for having to increase idle speed for hot start?
Bike will start with a little blip of the throttle at the right moment, does this explain fault code showing when engine is very hot?

I presume this will be all rectified with v2 flash?

Many thanks for your help

Just contacted dealer and my bike doesnt require v2 Flash!?!

I read on another forum about the fuel pipe connector not being snapped shut causing a similar problem, I noticed when I put my bike on its side to wash it there is a small amount of fuel dripping out, is this normal or should it be completely sealed?

There should be no fuel leaks what so ever. Blow the quick disconnet connector off with compressed air and separate it and check the Viton O rings closely for tears or other imperfections.

When you re fit the quick disconncet put a little oil on the O rings before re connect.

Did you tell your dealer that you had a fault code 2?

Yes told dealer about fault code, but dealer said the fault is not always the same as the manual shows.
Turns out they were right......... It was the spark plug! Changed it and everything is sorted, starts no problem. I have found there is a technique to starting these bikes, just a tiny grip on throttle as you press starter does the trick. Cleaned fuel line connector and it has stopped leaking.

My speedo has stopped working now, it's never ending!

Good, you got the primary problems sorted out!!!

The speedo has two electrical sources, one comes from a battery in the speedo, and the other comes from the bikes electrical power once it's running. So, the first question I have is, does the speedo work when the bike is running?

If it does then that explains that problem, replace the battery in the speedo itself. The battery is a CR 2430 lithium.

Comes on when you start the bike but goes off once you start moving after maybe 30 seconds. Checked sensor cable, magnet on disc etc all seem ok.

And the battery? I was having trouble with mine, found that the feed from the bike was disconnected-my fault- and it was running on battery only. It would do the same thing.

There is a little white connector that comes off of the wire loom that comes from the speedo unit itself. Stupid.

Another problem I have had with mine is that when the battery gets low, when I go to start my bike while out on a ride, sometimes the speedo will clear all the info that I have gathered on that ride, the clock, the trip odometer's 1 & 2, etc... But the total odometer and the basic set will be unaffected.

This just happened to me a couple of days ago while out looking for the Husky memoria (ride report to come). When the battery get's low you will see the letters r b ( replace battery) in lower case appear for just a moment. This is kind of a bummer as I use the speedo as fuel gauge. In this particular case I had looked at the odo not long before and saw what it was reading. It only did it once on this ride which had many stops and starts, and in the end I was pretty close on mileage as I was carrying my gps. We did 57 miles in total, and I had enough fuel left to do at least another 15 or 20 miles. The ride was some jeep trail and a lot of carving between the bushes.

I'm not sure why the battery went bad so quickly, but, I have another here ready to put in today. If I have problems when I go on my ride tomorrow I will post about it.

In case I hadn't mentioned it before, yours is the second bike that had this kind of problem that was caused by a cracked insulator on the spark plug. The other instance was a guy who lived in Montana and hiked out a good distance to get assistance to get his bike out. The dealer went over everything and in the end it was the plug. The first two things that I do when I am on the trail and a bike quits are to change the plug, and disconnect the kill switch.

Super glad you got yours sorted and are now enjoying your new steed!!

Speedo seems to have fixed its self, maybe just a lose wire.

Yeh I'm absolutely loving the berg, best bike I've ever had, so much grip and very easy to ride.
