FCR 41 Jetting/Mixture Screw Advice

Phew! Only had my Berg 4 weeks and I don't seem to be out of the garage fiddling with it it! If it wasn't for this site i'd be tearing my hair out!

I had some problems with the bike holding an intermittent high idle when warm so I thought i'd start from the beginning and make sure everything was setup right.
Upon checking the idle I noticed the mixture screw was wound 2 3/4 turns out and it's not until you wind it all the way in bar 1/4 turn that the idle starts to drop? Surely this is not right.
As far as i'm aware from the previous owner the jetting is as stock.

My bike is completely standard bar an Akro slip on (no baffles fitted), I live close to sea level and use the bike on the road.
She runs really sweet, snap wheelies in first, pulls nice but does pop alot on deacel and is maybe overly snatchy in first.

Any advice on jetting would be much appreciated as i'd love to curb the popping a bit and get the mixture screw sorted...

Thanks for the link Steve, I did read through that before but got a bit lost in it all I have to admit....

Am I right in saying I need a larger Pilot jet (possibly a 48) and Pilot screw (PS) is another term for the mixture screw?

you're very rich at the bottom. suggest that you go smaller on the PJ and let us have the needle code?

When hot if the valves are not set right the idle can go up.... can you advise whether the valves are spot on.....???

FERACER - valves are all good thanks though :)

Taffy - Ok cool, right time to put some effort in bear with me as this is my first fiddle with the carb. The 4mm allen screw holding the needle down is bloody tight, is this ok? Am a bit worried about giving it some force....

Hey Devondan,

I only just "nip" my needle plud screw up when I've done an adjustment on it & everytime I go to undo it it "cracks" undone. Dont be too worried about it & use a small ring spanner to get the leverage to crack the plugl as such. Just dont do it up with too much force. Good example is use the long side of the allen key in the plug & only tighten with your fingers so you dont get too much leverage.

Good luck man

Thanks wildman, you were right I gave it some and it 'cracked' undone :)

Taffy the needle code is OBDVR and the clip is second notch from bottom.....

yep i have needle for you.

why not call me young fellow in the morning. follow my hyperlinks. i don't like to do business on screen. to me that's like doing a #2 on the loo with the door open and having a chat!!!!! yuug!

Taffy
