Yes, I've been trolling the net and have found the comparison test between the Husaberg FC501, KTM 380& CR/KX500's which you mentioned.
I think I'm gonna see if they can post back-copies over here to Scotland.
For the record I also briefly owned a Husky CR500 (1985 model) before purchasing my 'Berg FC600.
The Husky was a bit of a nightmare, really.
I bought it off ebay for £500 and the fella whom I bought it from said that it had just recceived an engine rebuild.
This didn't seem to be the case as it only ran once before going belly-up and I had to put it into my mechanic to see what was wrong.
£500 and 8 weeks later I got it back and it ran twice before going belly-up again.
It blew the crank seals, but without stripping the engine I couldn't be sure there was no other damage and there was no guarantee that it wouldn't go 'POP' again if I fixed it so it had to go.
The fella who bought it off me has managed to get her going again, so it's not all bad news!
Anyways I'm stoked with the performance and power of my new 'Berg.
My cousin has a 1997 model Honda CR500 and the 'Berg is every bit as quick in a straight line and seems to put it's power down a LOT better out of the corners and the power is SO much easier to control.
I'm interested in collecting magazine articles / tests of big-bore 2 & 4-stroke dirtbikes from the '80's up to the present day.
I'd like a big 2-stroke to compliment the 'Berg.
There doesn't seem to be much information readily to hand over here in the UK.
I think the American market was far larger than the UK for bikes of this speed & size 'coz you guys have the space to get them wound right up!
I don't think the KTM 550 or Yammy WR500 were ever officially sold here and even CR/KX500's seem to be pretty few and far between, but I'm gonna keep looking.
Let me know if you know of any sources of magazine back issues etc.
