FC / mx stator and flywheel

1999 FC600: Sparks rewound stator, and FCR carb

First year of the reverse ignition, with the stator mounted on the ignition cover. This is the FC/mx bike. The stator has no lighting coils. The flywheel seems shallower than the non-mx flywheel.

I’ve seen in the Wiki, a spacer is needed for the Fc stators to move the stator into the flywheel more, for better, stronger spark. My bike has no spacer. But I was under the impression it would not be needed with the shallower flywheel. Is that correct? Or is the spacer needed regardless?

Starting can be sporadic at times. Jetting is good. I set the ignition timing some time back, after watching one of Taffy’s videos. Wondering if this spacer could help.

well look at the parts book if you don't believe me? it shows that it is needed there. if the stator doesn't run insdie the flywheel it is fecked.

dimensions are
OD 49mm
ID 31mm
thickness 7.75mm

a cross section of it shows that you machine a recess on one face 1.2mm deep and 7mm wide so that only a single 1mm on the inside 'rim' and a single 1mm on the outside rim.

this reduces the contact area with the cover because alloy to alloy will sieze together.

I donnalf look after you!
