I have recently converted my FC501 to supermoto (I had various bits and bobs spare from my KTM 640).

The bike in its actual form:

Summer here in Greece is very warm and dry and very difficult for any offroad or MX training, so I decided to carry out the conversion, bit of curiousity, bit of experimenting. In addition to this, trail/forest riding is prohibitted during the summer due to the increased fire risk.

I bought my KTM a complete front brake setup and a new set of wheels, so I had a supermoto kit sitting there for my berg.

Initially, the bike was transformed into this:

However, I had a couple of issues; first of all, the hand guards were totally unsuitable for supermoto use, so I had to change to something more appropriate. Second, the stock brake caliper, a 2piston brembo was also really unsuitable, even though I had fitted the KTM stock master cylinder and a 320mm wavy braking disc. Given the fact that the 4piston brembo from my KTM would not fit on the Berg's foot, I had to look for alternatives. While looking on ebay, I found an adapter that would solve the problem, but then a 6piston beringer with a radial master cylinder popped up and I could not avoid the temptation and at 240e delivered to my door was more than a bargain.

So, eventually, everything was fitted on the bike and the final result is this:

I have no words to describe what an incredible bike this is, puts a great a smile on me every single time I ride it, either on dirt or on track! Of course, when the weather permits, the bike will be transformed back to its true nature and I will unleash it again on the mountains and the dirt tracks

And a couple of videos

Thanks!

sorry for the late reply, working my self to death :bounce3: :bounce3:

p.s. can't figure out how to unscrew the freakin' oil plug to change the oil myself :angry: :angry:

Very nice!! I must admit I have a soft spot for the SM's. I like the videos too. Can I ask about the helmet cam you used in that top video? I've used one but the picture seems to go all over the place, up & down, left to right, the horizon is constantly changing and it makes the video very difficult to watch. I was wondering why yours is so smooth & steady, although you can see your arms & bike moving around so much?

Thanks

Crispin

My camera is a GoPro Hero HD; I guess the fact that it is widescreen and a dedicated motorsports/action camera results in the image being clear and steady.

See another vid from one of my enduro rides:

Even though the terrain is a lot rougher than the race track, the picture still remains very clean of vibration.

In the photo below, you can see the camera and how it is mounted on the helmet:

Here are the resolution modes:

1080p = 1920×1080 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
960p = 1280×960 pixels (4:3), 30 fps, 12 Mbit/s data rate
720p = 1280×720 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate
720p = 1280×720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate
WVGA = 848×480 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate

60 fps @ 720, that's impressive, but I haven't tried it yet, I normally use the 960p setting

Wow, that looks like a cracking piece of kit, very nice!!! Great quality video mate.

It's pricey, but I think it worths every penny.

Got it from the US through ebay, considerably cheaper (240e WITH p&p and customs fees), when it costs £250 in the UK and 350e in the rest of europe (no p&p in price)

next month I will go to a proper supermoto track day, will post some new vids.

Supermoto season finale, I will be converting my berg back to MX soon!

Here are some pics and a vid:

It looks like you're not using SM or MX boots when riding?

A guy I met didn't have MX boots on when his foot got snaged and twisted his ankle so bad that he got a big cast and a set of cruches for the rest of the season. Unfortunately for him, he did this in the begining of the season so no riding for him that year... SM and MX boots protects your feet from twisting the ankle way better than any street riding boots if (or rather when...) the boot catch a curb or anything else that 's in the way.

So my tip will be that if your not using MX boots, keep your feet on the foot pegs so you don't have to hop around on cruches for two months when your buddies go out and ride.

But then again it sort of comes with the territory to sometimes get hurt when riding SM... :lol:

When I bought my boots, I have to admit, I failed to capture my requirements properly.
Luck or not, I had a couple of crashes at the track, but quite mild and did not suffer any injuries at all.
All I am waiting for now is to wear them out so badly, so I can through them away and get myself a shiny new pair of SM boots. Unfortunately, my taste is limited to the SIDIs and the Gaernes and I am trying to pursuade myself to spend the 350+ euros they cost!

On a different note...

I assume that you have figured out how to accomplish this feat by now?!

no, not really. I haven't tried it to be honest, but I will do in the near future. I am in the process of moving (actually got married last week) and don't have much time to move all my tools and bike-stuff from my old garage to the new one :)

p.s. I am bit lazy these days, too! :bounce3: :bounce3: :bounce3:
