Fan holes...what the?

Going to install my fan kit and found all the mounting holes filled with Silicone. :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: I have not heard of any one talking about this before so it must be from the previous owner. Not an easy thing to remove.

I imagine that you are talking about the RTV type of silicone seal. Did the previous fan owner ever have the fan mounted on a motorcycle before you bought the fan? Why can't you just simply scrape the silicone seal out of the mounting holes??

New Husaberg fan out of the box. This bike was like brand new when I bought it. 40 hr`s and 2000 km`s. Not a speck of sand anywhere. I dont think it ever saw dirt.
So it has never had a fan on it and the silicone is very good quality because it is stuck on like super glue. The holes are plugged end to end. I have to carefully cut the silicone out while trying not to damage the fins. Not easy to do in tight spaces! I have been using a very sharp tiny flat blade screwdriver to try and cut it out.
I just found it strange since no one else has ever said they had to clean out the holes before they could mount their fan. Really not sure why it is there.

Umm... are you sure you're on the right mounting holes? Could you post a pic, please?

I would like to show you but my pics are too big and I am not able to make them smaller.( I don`t know how) Anyways the fan is now installed and it fits very nice in the only four holes in the rad, minus the sillicone. Thanks for the replys, now it is time for a new thread.

I want to put a fan on my '07 FE650. The rad has 4 mounting holes that are 4.5" apart. Is that the same as yours, and is that the size of the stock Husaberg/KTM fan? Thanks.

Thats the right holes. The fan will come with the proper bolts to mount it and it just plugs in. I hope you don`t have silicone in your holes. It`s a bugger to remove.
