fading Magura clutch

I guy's I have a 2004 fe450; had her since new(almost 2 yrs now). My last 5 or 6 rides my clutch starts fading, it's clearly from heat, but water/coolent levels are fine or same as before. I have bled the fluid now after every ride tring to sort it out, used magura blood, ATF and 5 weight fork oil, still same problem when she gets hot. Checked for leaks; none. I am riding same terain as before; slow technical stuff, not ideal bike for this I know but I love my berg.

Do I change entire system to maybe Brembo or is there another option or reason for this.

Oh I have not replaced any parts on the clutch system, they all looked fine.

Please any ideas or advice as the local dealer network is currently "between " agents.

Thanx

when you bleed the clutch do you use the back bleed method ???

my clutch was fading , i back bled the system and its all good . 8)

I am not sure what the back bleed method is, I do the following.

1. take rubber nipple off on piston end by engine.
2. put LARGE syringe with tight hose over nipple.(free of air bubbles and presure applied)
3. loosen reservoir and remove cover.
4. use 8 spanner and slightly loosen nipple until fluid starts flowing
5. push "new" fluid through; reservoir overflows.
6. whistle keeping presure on, tighten nipple.
7. replace rubber thingy and replace reservoir cover.

Then the clutch is fine; until she get a little hot.

You may be due to replace the O ring on the piston which acts on the clutch rod. This is quite easy to do. I could not get a factory part quick enough when mine went, so I found an O ring that suited the piston fine at the local hardware store. Several allen head bolts need to be removed, and the entire slave cylinder is off, and the piston in hand. Back bleeding then completes the operation. No guarantees, but that is what my fading clutch problem was. Buzzard

i have experienced this and had two different answers i'm glad to say.

the first time was a shortage of fluid - yes it did look ok but it could take more so i filled it, screwed the lid down with oil seeping out everywhere and CURED!!!!!

the second time this happened it turned out one of the nuts was loose in the line, you know the ones, there seem to be 3 or 4 so you get the pipe lined up right.

try these and let us know!

regards

a pall with a ktm - same clutch i think - had the same prob and turned out to be slave cylinder oring and bore prob. i'd try replacing the o-ring first. ***

Thank You for the advice, I will get it done and test this weekend; will give feed back next week.

I hope it works , got a race in 2 weeks and the last race it played up; I race for fun and riding slow tech terrain with no clutch is not fun. I ended up losing control and smashing my collar bone.

Thanx
Jason

Also have a good look at the handle, I had the same problem and after replacing the o ring in the cylinder it was still fading so I inspected the handle and after pulling the rubber sleave back I saw it was leaking a little bit of oil. Bought a revision set and it was done.

Problem solved, I replaced both o rings and re bled, the clutch still started to fade but not as quickly and as bad. I noticed sweating from the bleed nipple; I stupidly must have over tightened it and it had a hair line crack at the bottom; replaced it and did 6hrs in very slow rocky terrain this weekend with no problems.

Thanx for advice.
