Downunder !
Well I finally sold my KTM530 EXC and as soon as Wattsy from flinders MC in Port Pirie gets his 2010 models in, I will get my FE570 (Yay !!)

This bike will be a keeper for me and I want to put some luxeries on her without just wasting my money. The black chrome grafics looks the goods for the bling department, but for handling I was thinking of installing the factory (Husaberg branded) steering damper on her ??

Never had a damper on a bike before and not sure whether it's worth the $$$

I ride tight single trail to open flowing high speed beach stuff. The highlight of my riding year is our clubs yearly trip to the high country in the Victorian alps, where we spend an entire week riding some of the steepest. muddiest, rockiest, gnarly country you can find.

More than a few times I have had the bars wrenched from my hands hitting rocks and roots, and nearly come un stuck in the process. Will a damper be worth it for the riding I have described ??
Everyone I have heard that has one says "Once you buy one you will wonder why you didn't years ago" .
Would that be a fair statement or a biased one ??
I would hate to cough up $1400 (Aust $$) to find it really not that good.

I have heard the same words from a number of folks,Not sure about the exchange rate
but we might beat that with shipping?

i just bought mine, firts one, based on the same advices and the upcoming tuareg rally in march. i'll start testing it this weekeind, i'll let you know what the difference is for me next week, although for now there won't be a lot o rocks on my path here in holland.

I just got a new scotts submount kit complete and posted to newcastle for $586. Bought direct from the scott's website, fits and looks great.

tkae advantage of the high Aussie dollar at the moment

The funpart about a steering damper is that you do not notice it working. . .

. . . until you remove the damper.

A steering damper makes it all a bit easier to stay upright.

I agree. I race offroad on the east coast of the US. For clipping trees, hitting tree roots, and catching rocks, the steering damper can save you a trip to the ground. I don't notice it working but I do occasionally switch with friends and ride there bike without it. I cannot believe the difference when I ride a bike without one. I won't ride without one. For my new FX450, I'll be installing the damper from Motosportz. www.motosportz.com . Just look under the KTM section. I was a dealer for these and they do sell them for the Husaberg.

I ran a Scott's submount on my KTM and will be running the same on my Husaberg.

I find it makes a big difference in the nasty stuff...especially as you get tired.

So far it sounds like it's all good. thanks for the response. I guess all dampers do the same thing, I should just go where the best price is ??

All dampers are not the same. Some have a great deal of adjustments that I have seen folks get in trouble fiddling with. I prefer the simple, one adjustment type. I have used WER, GPR V3, GPRV4 underbar, and the Scotts. I have installed and worked on bikes with the Motosportz. I kept breaking the WER on treers. The GPR V3 was good and the V4 was better. The Scotts had too much damping for eastern woods but the wide open guys love it. The Motorsportz reminded me of the GPR units just made different.

I likeed the gpr but i prefer the scotts with the extra adjustments.
My ktms def needed a damper but the 09 on bergs are totally different, they need very little damping.
I ride tightish woods and still have the scotts on my fe570 but i have it turned down low, plus it has the back up of high speed valving for those big hits without feeling heavy on handling.

eyespy,

I put a scotts on my 550, and you dont really notice a magic fix, it has some noticable impact depending how you set it up and use it, but it has definately saved me on some 'holy-f***' moments.

I've never taken it off to see what the difference is now im used to it.

Azza.

Scotts for me, purchased from both BRP and Scotts in the US and delivered in about 1 week to Oz.

If you want the hardparts steering damper, buy it from the US. Instead of paying $1400 like you said, its more like $650 with the bracket. Great time to do it with the Aussie dollar the way it is.

KTM/BERG parts in Australia are super expensive compared to the US. When buying a full akra system for my superduke, Ktm Australia wanted $4500... I got it from the US for $2000 shipped. Apparently KTM Australia buy it from the factory for more than what its sold for in the states...
