I was reading a race report on a swedish web site and in the victory
interview, the swedish WEC junior rider, Joakim Ljunggren talked about
his bike. He had lenghthened the frame 15mm between tank and steering head and Bjorne Carlsson 25mm the fork angle is unchanged. This modification is to improve stability coming into a turn and in the turn so that the rear tire wont slide out so easy. Interestingly they chose to lenghten Bjorne bike more probably to get more weight onto the rear wheel since he in the
E1 class. Who knows what the actual displacement is, could be anything
over 500cc? It would be nice to try this mod. Here are some pics,
Joakim has #4 w/green back ground. Also among the pics is the husa father Tomas Gustavsson. His bike has every model year of parts and
pieces.

Great photos Viking...how is the track made?Does not look plowed,do they use snowmobiles to make it or? Are the tires studded or do they use screws?....thx nsman

Hi nsman
far as I know it was plowed and shoveled Tibro MK is larger club so they
had the man power to the work nessesary from their post on web site
they debated to plow or not to plow, they are using studded tires and the
studds are special ralley studs and stick out 10-12mm to keep stud from
coming out they super clue them in also some of tire makers have a
special rubber compond that stay soft in cold weather keep in mind
starting temp in the morning -20c brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
screws dont stay in the tire when its hardpack
studded tires

I understand the 15mm change is needed! The 05 when the front wheel bottoms, it rubs against the fender/frame. If you check out some of my pictures you will find the fender is broken off where the tire rubbed it through. That is with the fork tubes moved down. This is a design change that must happen. Whether split the radiators or change the down tube design and positioning...

I don't think that was the intent with the modification of the frame
you can fix your fender rubbing problem
A/ the stroke of the fork is too long for available space simply install 14mm
diameter washers between bottoming piston and rebound adjuster assem.
practical thickness of washers is 5mm be sure to bottom rebound adj.
assem. into cartridge rod
B/ 05 bottoming piston has a 2.75mm bleed hole on the side ~30mm from
bottom of bottoming piston which makes bottoming piston less effective
just plug the hole with a screw
C/ adjust fender with thin washers so that it almost touches frame
I did above mod and had no problem with tire rubbing on fender only
when I was running a studded tire would I have occasional slight rub

Viking, we have some factory bikes on their way (for the WEC rounds in Canada and NY), perhaps our resident Frydaddy will enlighten us as to their frame mods.

It would be a treat to trow a leg over a factory bike I am not saying
that I would do the bike justice 8O
I have been running the chain short for years in attempt to get similar
effect (get more weight over rear wheel)

I have heard rumors that they are running a 496, but that is only speculation. They have run as small as 475 in the E3 class, has run a 505, and of course up to the 550.

Tm-enduro
500cc that was un assumption on my part I have known about the 505cc
but a 496cc thats new to me and there are some indication that Bjorne
likes more cc than the other riders

hello Per

can you explain further the above quote? i don't follow you?

regards

Taffy

Hi Taffy
Longtime no talk I am shure by now that you are very familiar with the WP fork
04 05 maybe 06 hade problem with tire rubbing on the fender and with studded tires
it is not accepteble so what I said was to install a spacer betwen bottoming piston
(the black plastic piece) and the top cap you have now shorten the stroke were tire
no longer rubbs to gain some bottoming resistance (more effective bottming piston)
block off a bleed hole that is in the middle of that plastic piece with screw 05 06 has this
hole your fork does not have the this problem in fact it has longer bottoming cone which
I like better

so long Per

whato Per

i have been calling that long plastic thing the spring guide. this should be extended to reduce the stroke? gotchya!!!!!!

i have the later frame and the engine goes in this week. i will also be testing different triple clamps and the 'rubbing' i don't need!

thanks

Taffy
