Hi Joe,
Did you take note of the Bore and Stroke? ( 97 x 60.8 )
Indeed, near identical to that of my 444 of 2001.

Why not a 100 mm bore like the Husaberg 450? LOL

Perhaps early Husaberg Dirttrack testing helped shape the modern KTM?
Nah, I am certain such is simply coincidence.

They do have a 100mm bore version that they are calling a 505, when in reality it is really only 470cc, I believe.

If I had a dollar for every 470 I converted to a 97 mm bore 450.......
Well, I would have five dollars. :D

Hi Dale,

Yes I did note the bore/stroke ratio, the first thing I did when I turned to the article.

We don't know what the curves look like, but for the same size valves, I bet they could have gone to 95mm bore and 63.3 stroke, which I bet is close to what the ORIGINAL Husaberg 450 prototype engine was that is rumored was so hot that it got killed by big bro.

I can hardly wait to see the specs on the production KTM.

I am a retired Aerospace Engineer, and regret not pursuing my true love, engines.

Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe,
Truth be told the 97 mm bore makes very good use of 37 mm inlet valves. (ie no bore shrouding)

Hope you are doing well.

Sincerely,
Dale
