All, this might seem like a bit of a lame question, but not having seen any up close properly, do you know how & what exhaust protection bands are made from?? Are they some sort of hose with a spring/jubilee clip/tie rap etc inside?? Anyone got instructions to put one together?

Cheers

Crispin

I got the E-line exhaust heat shields/protectors. They have the standard metal hose clamps to fasten to the exhaust. I think thats what your talking about.

i think hes referring to the bands that wrap around the muffler itself.

Cheers Pollo, I took a look thank you.

I was after the sort of "hose pipe"-like tube that goes around the end of the can to protect it if you drop the bike on the road? I've seen some self improvised affairs that look OK. You can buy them for a price (ref link below), but I was wondering how people made their own?

Thanks

lol, you must have just posted that as I was replying... Yes, exactly that. Do you know what it's made from please? I'm guessing the construct is simply a big jubilee clip & heat resistant tube (do you know what you can purchase the tube as (common name))?

Thanks

exhaust sliders or muffler sliders they are called. i have no experience with them though.

Exhaust muffler sliders. OK. Another item i've just discovered here. Looks specific for laying down those motards.
Thanks

Crispin, Ive never seen one before either, but with great curiosity i examined the one in Shorty's post, I reckon that is a silicone hose with a very large hose clapm undone and fed through it, you can see what appears to be a screw head or something under the exhaust can, and the end of the tube is clearly cut. seems like a chep way to do it, initially I was thinking of jelly ruber like you use in a speargun, it is about 5/8" round with a very small say 1/8" hole through it, you could easily splice that stuff together (like the spear hook on a speargun rubber) and slide it over the can. that stuff is extremely elasticky and very resilient.
