I have noticed my exhaust seems to be getting louder or I am just getting older.
Is there a way to quiet the stock exhaustor at least tone it down a bit.
Loud sucks! Especially with the nieghbours I have!

I made a small tapered tube from perforated sheet and fixed this into the end of the silencer, has made the bike a fair bit quieter without losing power.
Its about 4-5 inches long and is about 3/4" diameter inside the silencer tapering out to just fit inside the end can and held in with a self tapper.

So what is the best way to do this and what is the best packing material?

You'll need to remove the end cap from the silencer, usually requires rivets to be drilled out, your old packing will probably be very loose or non existent.
With 4 strokes I always use a wire wool matting around the baffle to protect the packing from the heat and extreme resonance the silencer has to cope with, then use sheet packing and wrap around until just about slides into the pipe, replace end cap and re-rivet.
Should make a difference to noise and performance if the old packing is worse for wear.

As above but if its the same as the 02 650's you need to remove the engine end and not the actual end cap.

Really need to re-pack both ends - see attached page from manual. I'm just about to do this. Got a packing that is like curley wool (not glassy) but like curley knitting wool - especially for 4-strokes. Anyone used this type.

Anyway, I do some pics when I get round to it on the weekend.
