Exhaust cracking up

On my 04 FC450, the collector has started cracking where one of the primary pipes enters. My bike has been used for 25 hours, and the dealer said it's NOT a guarantee issue as this supposedly is a service item.

For starters, I CANNOT see how this is a service item, and if it is, not after 25 hours. It seems as the silicone ( or similar) has disappeared.

I'm wondering if I should take this matter further as I'm very disappointed with the importer on this issue.

So.. Do you guys take your exhausts to pieces to re-silicone them frequently??

I'll get a picture up...

Sounds bad to me.

Only heard of thin titanium pipes cracking.

Surely a stainless steel pipe is NOT a service item, it should last for ever.

In Scandinavia you have no guarantee at all. I used the Swedish law to get a new item. I asked the Swedish national board for consumer policies and they told me what they thought was reasonable. Husaberg Scandinavia tried to not follow the national law.

This happens. I think Taffy has that as a point in the sheet. I re-siliconed my silencer after approximately 100 hours. It started to leak.

surely they should replace it! how can cracked pipes be a service item?

The point was that I should have re-siliconed them earlier to keep the metal apart thus reducing fatigue/shaking.

Mikst: Did this happen to you as well?

does it tell you to do it in the manual?? if not then how can it be your fault if you youre not told until it goes wrong

title; exhaust cracking up

why, what was the joke?

I don't get it Taffy. I do know what cracking up means though...

I've never really read the owners manual that thorough to be honest. :)Have anyone here read this?

No, there was no sign of damage at all. The silencer was only leaking.

Vegard,

How often does you dealer service exhaust systems then?

For what it's worth, I haven't put silicon into the joints of a single exhaust system since oh about 2001. I have seen a number of FP pipes fail due to the titanium cracking - but that is a known issue with singles and dodgy workmanship on some.

I think your dealer needs to stop pulling your leg and get real.

Cheers,
Simon

The importers says it'a all my own fault.

I really don't think I'll give up on this. I don't at all feel guilty about this.

I can guarantee you that on my -02 factory bike there has never been any silicon at that spot. It seems that you have a dealer similar to the one in my city. Which kind of silicon handles that kind of environment?

Does he have any new bikes in the shop? Ask him to show you the silicon on the pipes.

After having a good thorough chat with the importer on telephone, it seems as we've come to an agreement.

Some silicone present is definately an asset here aven if many of you don't use it. It will of course reduce blowby etc. The silly thing is that the owners manual don't say a word about this even if it's mandatory ( at least in this case)

I think that the bottom line is; make a phonecall instead of sending lots of e-mails. It's easier to understand what people really mean and where they stand this way.

So there you have it.. Not disappointed with the importer any more. :)
