Hey guys

Waited in the wings for long enough and Id finally like to share some of the plans that are already well in motion. I am super excited about this and Im hoping to get connected with a few of the guys who have already travelled down the road that I am just starting on.

Motorcycles are my passion and my berg was the first to introduce me to this awesome hobby. Ive had mine ripped apart many times (far too many haha) and Im ready to dive into the more technical part of engine building.

Since the first big rebuild on my berg Ive done it two times over, each resulting in a faster and more well rounded motorcycle. I have also done some seriously cool things with my other bikes, and am very close to finishing a ground up restoration and rebuild on my Husqvarna WR360. Along the way I have used what I have to modify the motor into something truly terrifying.

With the berg however, I have definitely hit the wall where my current skills will not take me any further. So its time to tool up and get better.

The plans are already running wild. I havent settled on exactly what Im doing yet, but thats half the fun.

Theres a few things that Im keen to try and build totally from scratch- top of my list being main bearing replacement (those turned steel sleeves with upgraded and larger bearings look the goods!) and velocity bellmouth setup. From there Im thinking a full split twin exhaust dumped underneath the chassis, not totally unlike a ducati.

Im also a really big fan of the original 701 supermoto prototype that the husky engineers launched a few years ago. What can I do with a few sheets of fibreglass I wonder?

Im keen to hear everyones thoughts on a big bore 650 vs a lightened 650. I could lighten the hell out of the entire valvetrain and hope for a peaky 628, or just stroke and bore it.

What am I hoping to achieve from this? Who knows man. But one thing is for sure, if I give it everything I have then Ill end up with something good. That might even take me into doing this professionally one day, but more than likely it will just give me a whole bunch of nearly useless skills that I can brag about. And thats exciting man. Im only 21.

New shed soon, along with the cool spinny tools to go in it. Lathe, mill and press incoming!

Gday Lemonny

i did both, peaky "high" compression 628 and a 700 both about the same hp.

628 revved to 9-10k lasted 100 hrs, cracked piston and liner, cam follower (was new only 100hrs) and big end all starting to go at 100hrs

700 is much faster from mid corner during initial throttle application, and i got 360hrs out of it.

both were a lot of fun to build, id do either again just for the enjoyment but in my experience the big bore was faster and more practical/durable in the long run

Look forward to seeing what you come up with.
What kind of chassis are you thinking? Supermoto or more road race?

Carl.

Thanks for your responses guys.

Yeah I understand the fragility of working up a 628 build. But when you consider a race spec CRF450r getting torn down twice as much, 100hrs doesnt seem too bad really.

But 360hrs from the 710 is an amazing achievement and reflects the amount of work that went into your build bushie. At the moment I feel that the 628 might be a more achievable goal to work to before I start seriously developing the big bore kit but we'll see what happens when I get closer to making the plunge. I still need to get the 360 on the road.

When you say the 710 is putting down just as much HP, I could imagine its much less peaky and more torquey yeah?

Carl Im sticking to supermoto for now and dont have many plans to seriously chop and change chassis. But that tracker of yours was one of the first great builds that made me stop and think about trying this for myself!

Next week Im catching up with a guy who is sitting on a large amount of NOS Husaberg parts and a few flawless complete bikes (these things look brand new)- so Ill see what I can get from him. I currently only have one set of cases and one chassis..... for now!

Hey guys just got back from the trip. 2 Hours sleep in as many days and another shift at work in 40mins :(

BUT

So much cool **** to come back with. Lots of NOS berg parts, including a brand new fuel tank and a few other bits. And what else? A CR500AF with a 92 watercooled 491cc motor. Yeah, that actually happened. My hearing is worse for it! Onwards!
