Excessive wear on engine side covers

I have an 09 FE 570 with 320kms on it.
On both sides the covers are already quite scored from my boots rubbing on them.
Should this be the case?, there are even some small grooves there, like cuts, has anyone else noticed excessive wear here?

yes, i have the same, after a few hundred km's it was pretty bad already. Mine has almost 5k now, and it did not get a lot worse after the first wear, almost as if the firtst cover layer came of and then it stopped more or less. I do see a lot of people riding with a carbon protection cover, but that looks even worse IMHO...

so it looks ugly, but i dont think it is a problem.

covers on mine have had the paint stripped off then sprayed with a clear metal sealant / laquer seem to be holding up well and even if it does wear your not goin to notice it as much

I have the carbon covers from moto-composites (australian mob) They work great, though I have lost the flywheel side one :)! Got ripped off in a fast water crossing I think! Can look pretty scungee after a ride, but a quick spray with tyre shine and they are as good as new :)

here's wat they look like with over 2000km of bush bashing!

If your covers aren't toast already, cover them with duct tape, and comtinue to cover them as needed till ya get ready to sell.

I used paint stripper , then used a scotbright pad to rough it up . Looks better now .

...Alabama chrome! :D

Looks good Gooch, I have stripped and polished them on KTM's but the Berg bare metal finish looked like crap on mine. I bought a Rekluse cover and a friend of mine sand blasted and powdercoated my old one black. It looks trick now!
