Parts: Throttle cable, clutch lever (cable, too), spare foot pegs, inner tubes (a way to put air in, too), air filter cleaning stuff.., JB Weld, oil, spare nuts and bolts, chain breaker, small length of replacement chain + masterlink (temporary is ok), zip ties, wire, a big roll of duct tape, beer, etc....
And in case you are unable to keep your bike going, more beer! Remember its Utah, the land of 3.2 beer...
Advisable to have a trail pack with tools, spark plug, master link, zip ties, tow strap, snake bite kit (for others, you'll never get bit), flat fix-it, space blanket (they fold up real small), wipes/T.P., and a small first aid kit....
By all means shake your shoes/boots out before putting them on (sleeping bag, too!). Read up on what to do if you get stung by a scorpion before going, in case it would happen to you or somebody else.
Oh, you asked about tires...: the terrain is mixed, but mostly sandy loam type trails with sandstone rocks, and trails...from one extreme to another...so a tough tire would be the best insurance to a fun ride.
