Well it finally happened....I am the proud new owner of a 2002 650.

I have some questions....the title says it is a FX 650E.....I thought they were all Fe650E bikes? This bike has no E button....was it removed or none from the factory?

I need a kickstand, where might I find one?

I was also going to make it street legal....Baja Designs or are there other options?

Bike has the Big Gun Race exhaust.....are there other options that I should consider?

I am sure that I will have more questions later.

For now here she is.......

The FX should have an estart and a kickstand. There was no FC650, so the items must have been removed. You should be able to get the kickstand parts from your dealer. Occasionally the parts will show up on ebay.
Looks like 05 seat/plastic and graphics.

and someone fitted as nice underseat tank for you as well.

getting it street legal will be an effort but keep your eye on ebay both europe and the USA.

Well I knew that the kickstand was removed, but I was not sure if the bike had an estart or not. I guess the guy that originally had it was a KTM factory rider or something and he was given this bike. I guess he stripped the bike to a basic MX bike. The guy I bought it from was a KTM/Husaberg mechanic in Vegas and basically the bike has been gone through with all new brakes, Keihin fcr carb with accelerator pump off of ktm 525, new tires, and everything went over with a fine tooth comb. Very clean bike.

Guess I will be giving MotoXotica a call on Monday....I will more than likely have to hold off on getting the estart back on but I am sure I can afford the kickstand.

If anyone has any take offs or knows of any take offs for this bike let me know. Thanks.

Interesting, I just went and looked at the bike....there is a block off plate where the starter should be.....I will have to do some more investigating.

The 2002 FX650 has a wide ratio trans - originally designed for desert racing. It was an excellent tranny that I wish they still built today.

The e-starters on that year were worthless, and often removed. Get yourself a 2004 or newer starter, battery and battery box and all will be well.

The 2002 FX cam works amazingly well with the Big Gun exhaust. Keep an eye on the Big Gun spark arrestor as they do burn out. Also watch for loose rivets.

The 2002 was a bad transition year for the counter balancer. In 2003 they fitted a double row support bearing that was an absolute must to fit. See if you can determine if this upgrade was performed. The odds are very good that your engine was either upgraded by choice, or by necessity at some point.

I can also recommend an Keihin 41mm FCR for both power and ease of starting. Dan Blume can hook you up with a kit, but I also recommend keeping an eye out for a 2004 or newer exhaust to go with the carb kit, as the 2002 is a tight fit with the FCR.

Lastly, open your stator and check for corrosion and moisture. It's important to keep the stator dry...

Hey guess what.....the bike is much much much easier to start when both petcocks are on, as opposed to one on and one off.
