Engine Stands. Does anybody use them? Especially Professional Techs. Are they helpful or just one more thing to deal with?

I have been looking at a few but the Tag Z, $105.00 U.S plus shipping which may be alot, seems to be a good value.

There is the Fly Racing Stand but it doesn't turn the engine (rotisserie)
Metaltek which is I think around $400
K&L which is also pricey.

for years, my engine stand was 4 one foot long 2x4's nailed together to form a 4" tall square. that was used for engines that wouldn't stand by themselves on the bench. all my berg work was done without a stand.

It would be nice to have for the guy who has everything. If you can weld make one your self.

I have the Z-tag stand. I used it as usual today.

it is worth it BUT you should modify it as soon as you get it.
1) make a long studded bolt go out BOTH WAYS
2) make the smaller movable shaft go out both ways
3) make a shoulder for the movable shaft as the front of a Husaberg engine is narrower than the rear.
4) this is the one you should do but won't: make the frame that rolls sit 4" further back so the centre break lione in the crankcases is down the middle of the stand. as it is, all the engine is nearer the mechanic and the engine rolls the moment you touch it.

I also ground a little metaloff so that the back of the Husaberg cases could sit nicely but this was 5-minutes with the grinderette. worth it. never us the tray though.
