engine stalls when i let it idle

hi my problem is i have a 03 FE 400 that rides spot on i think when i let the bike idle (tick over ) when riding down hills or stopping the engine stalls I've turned the tick over up to 2000 rpm and it still does it but not as much I've cleaned the air filter and cleaned the plug what is nearly new the plug was black is this normal? any ideas anyone

I would adjust the mixture screw first. Set your idle at a normal level then adjust the mixture screw until it idles at the highest point then readjust the idle again to a normal level and give it a go.

nice 1 i will try that. is the mixture screw the small one next to the tickover one ?

tappets are the most likely culprit IMHO. check them over. they want checking every three rides on the older motors.

hi taffy cheers for that i will check that as well did you get the stator i sent you is it any good cos i have a another one i will send of the 650 but its not good condition tho dont suppose that matters eh

yep i think ive sorted it the stator gone probably the cause of the other problems what do you think?

sorted all my problems out on my berg rewound stators are the way :bounce: the bike runs and starts on estart spot on i love my berg again :laughing5:
