Greeting all,

re 2000 FE400

Bike starts OK and revs freely while in neutral
But as soon as the clucth in (dis)engaged (and still in neutral) the engine immediately dies.

Can anyone offer any advice / explanantions ???

Thanks

T

there's a chance that the pressure plate rubs against the inside face of the sidecoves grinding it to a halt.

that sidecover is so easy to remove - why don't you check it?

Problem solved.
Not sure if it was a Eureka moment or a D'OH ! moment.

When I picked up the bike a few months back we went over all the bits and pieces etc.
This is here, that's there blah blah and kill switch on the right ...
A no point did I consider the bike has two kill switches.
The left hand kill switch housing had been twisted around so the clutch lever was rubbing against the kill switch (and partially hiding it from view)
The kill switch is warn down indicating it has been in the position for a long time.
A slight bump must have moved it a millimetre or two so when the clutch lever was pulled in, the kill was activated.. and voila, engine dies.

Lucky it happened in the backyard and not out bush.
