What is the best sealant to use when rebuilding an engine. I've read that if you use the wrong stuff the cases will leak. I have hondabond at home and that has worked wonders on previous engines I've rebuilt. any sugestions!

it'll work fine, just don't use more than a film.
it'd be nice to know what engine, but assuming the '01-'08, i use just rtv sealant on the cylinder o- rings.

The "bonds" will work just fine. It is really Three Bond 1194, which you can buy a lot cheaper.

i just find that "the next time around" you can clean the rtv off the o-rings better (i'm cheap).

threebond 1207B (or hondabond 1207) is the best solventless "silicone" RTV sealant Ive ever used, can withstand petrol and elongation of 400%, thats better than most o rings! it even works on headgaskets, its also the most expensive

the 1194 is plenty good enough for the cases

some people use loctite 518 between the cases, Ive not tried it there but it does work extremely well on the rocker cover.

ThreeBond 1207B ( Black ) is the best ive used it for a long time now, KTM and Husaberg recommend ThreeBond Grey whilst it works fine in my early days we had problems with KTM LC4 640 engines tappet covers being warped and the gap in front of the timing chain throw would blow out, heat and force from the oil constantly belting on it eroded away the grey and they leaked profusely whilst the guys on there 640 Adventures were in the middle of the desert NOT GOOD, we went from Grey to Black and never a problem again, 1207B has more resistance in all departments as bushie qouted has said its not cheap BUT,
Whats the price of stripping the engine again or leaving your customer in the Simpson Desert stranded with no oil.
For overseas viewers( Simpson Desert ) is another word for the most unhospitable place in Australia, its a great ride ive done it twice but dont get stuck out there or you will die sooner than later.

forget that question, where can you find threebond!
Google ThreeBond its the actual brand name made in Tokyo Japan, contact them for a list of importers and suppliers for your area. I buy my stuff from a Motorcycle accessories wholesaler here in OZ. Most bike shops can get it for you also i think Honda and Yamaha sell the same stuff with there name on it as a genuine sealant i have no part number.

If all this falls in a heap contact me as i have a new unopened 100g tube of the 1207B i can sell you, 100g is the only size tube available and ive had my last tube for over 6months and its still half full.
I have also a new Grey 1104 50g tube
1207B 100g tube sells around $50, 1104 20g is about $20 i think, need to check.
Heres some specs 1104
minus 40 degrees to + 150, max gap fill 0.5mm, cure time 24hrs, chemical, gasoline, oil resistant
1207B
minus 60 degrees to + 320, no specs on gap but sure its double 1104, cure time 24hrs, restistant to all
Happy days

This is the closest topic that i could find(didnt want to make a new one).

Question:

What does the "BSL" & "BAUM3SL" or "BAUSLX2" stand for in seals?

Example: If the sparepart told me that the right seal is 30x42x7 BAU2SLX2 , and i would buy only 30x42x7 seal. Would that seal be completely diffrent without the "BAU2SLX2" label = wont work?

regards
