Engine repaint/ refurbishing

Hey guys,
Noticed my engine covers and some bolts just look really sad from corrosion so while I set my valve clearances last Sunday i figured I'd try some new color combos/polishing up some covers.

Here's a pic of before and after with valvecovers.

I'm probably going to blast and ceracote/powdercoat the clutch, waterpump and ignition cover in black with white HBG text or dark bronze. [emoji848]

So what have you guys done to your engines? [emoji16]

Yes, you are right, it looked sad. But "gentle" wire wheel makes nice difference. What I've done to my engine?I've doubled my oil capacity, improved filtration and got oil cooler all in one swoop. I installed external oil filter under the seat. Improved reliability too. When I do wet clutch, like Bushmechanic did, then I'll have 3l oil instead .8l

Nice! But why exactly? Not good enough lubrication/dirty oil? And does it make the oil change intervals a bit longer than the standard 10/15 hours?

In my humble opinion, yes, yes and yes. 800cc oil capacity is very little, thus it gets dirty very quickly. It needs to be clean to lubricate properly. I think part of the reason that Suzuki Drz has good reliability is due to about 3L oil capacity. If you double capacity you can double change intervals. If you improve Filtration then you can further increase interval. I think I can do 25 hours with my setup. I am also adding little of Motorkote additive. My goal is to make it as reliable and long lasting as Japanese bikes.

Well I believe there are no/little problems with durability with my bike but yeah it's not designed for road use but for racing.. Although I understand your point in expanding and improving filtration if intended only for road use. I probably won't do anything like that since I love a lighter setup and oil change isn't really an issue for me.
Nice to know usable mods! Thanks polska

In my use I couldn't feel any difference. It is Sm trim with lithium battery, and knobby tires. So partial weight is offset by paperweight battery.
