Hi guys, got a 2002 650 FE all seems fine goes well, starts well. Done all the normal oil changes and value clearances etc. Question is I reckon its done about 30 hours riding time mainly supermoto, when would you consider doing an engine strip and what would you change. I have heard the mains in the 2002's were a bit weak, also would you be replacing the piston ?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

If you haven't done already I would at least put in some new rocker bearings, 03 model. A new piston after 30hrs, I hope not as mine should have been replaced twice at that scenario :)

Hi,

as maichusa said check/replace the rocker bearings.
Then put an ear to your engine. If it becomes louder and feels a bit
"worn" you can think about overhauling your engine.
Until the engine smokes I wouldn´t think about replacing a piston.
My 2002 FE 501 has over 70hrs almost all the time motocross and I
have only changed the oil, the rocker bearings, the timing chain and the inner clutchhub.
I think this winter I will dismantle precautionary the complete engine. At 100hrs.
Then all bearings, the connecting rod and the piston/cylinder will be changed, I think. Maybe also the 4th gear wheels.

I have a 2002 650 SM, with almost 6000kms on it, nearly 80 hours. Most of that is hardish use. All I've done so far is the rockers, cam bearings (because I could) and the crappy cam chain (Iwis) because it had stretched at 50 hours

Other than that the 58 rwhp beast has been great.
