Engine oil level glass leaking

Hi, today I found my FE 570 2011 with an small crack on the oil level window, leaking oil.
I have never had a knock on it. It shocked me a lot, and I´m really dissapointed about it.

I would like to know the reason of cracking this window.

I have cheked on my Engine spare parts manual and it shows that my bike should have a round type oil window, (new part, it comes with *) but it doesn´t, my byke has a long and thin one.

I have cheked others topics here about this issue, but it is not clear to me.
On the model 2009-2010 it should be long and thin window, and 2011-2012 should be round type window, is that right?
But why some people with the 2011 model has the long thin wondow, like mine?

Has anybody experience an oil level window crack before?
How did you fix it?
What can be the cause of the crack?

I´m thinking on buying a new window an install it, but I will have to open the right crankcase. Doing this on a brand new bike I don´t like it at all...!
Is there anyother way of fix it?

Cheers.

Carlos.

Carlos,
I, too, have a 2011 FE570s. The oil check window on my bike is tall and skinny, like yours. I think the manual you're looking at is simply in error. No leaks here.
Isn't your bike still under warranty?

Hi Ruger,

Has your manual the same error?
Mine, on the page 6 CLUTH COVER, it says part 8* (new part): 78030095000 OIL LEVEL GLASS 30X8.
And you can see on the drawing the "round" type glass.
Then on the page 14 WATER PUMP you can see on the drawing the "long and thin" type.

I donwloaded the 2009 manual from the husaberg web site, and on the page 4 CLUTH COVER, it says 8: 81238084044 OIL LEVEL WINDOW CPL. On the drawing you can see the "long an thin" type, like mine.

About the warranty, I don´t know, I have just emailed the dealer.

Hi Carlos,

This is mighty interesting. On page 79 of the Owner's Manual ("Checking the engine oil level") there is a photo of the right side of the engine, and there plain as day is an oblong oil check window that is much taller than it is wide. But page 6 of the Spare Parts Manual: Engine has the same information your manual has, a round "oil level glass 30x8" and the same part number you've given.

The Owner's Manual favors us with a photo, and it shows the placement of the oil level window on the engine case itself. The Spare Parts manual, however, has a drawing that shows the window on the clutch cover. The Spare Parts Manual is in error, of course. The window is in the engine case, and it seems to be bonded into the case rather than held in place by a circlip as depected by the Spare Parts Manual.

If the window is indeed bonded into the engine case, it may be a very expensive proposition to replace. In that location it is protected by both the clutch cover and the brake lever. The designers may therefore have assumed that it would never be broken and may not have provided for any kind of repair. I'm very interested in what you learn from your dealer.

Does anyone have any wisdom on this subject, please?

Russ (AKA "Ruger")

Hey Ruger,

As I said before, I donwloaded the 2009 engine spare parts Manual, and you can see very clearly that Husaberg sells the window as a spare part, part 8: 81238084044 OIL LEVEL WINDOW CPL.

I don´t think it will be expensive, but I will ask on Monday.

I´m guessing that to covered by the warranty the bike should be checked by the dealer, and in my case the dealer is 600 kms away from my house, so I don´t think I will be lucky...!

If the parts manual that came with our 2011 machines is in error, I don't think I'd be willing to take the information from a 2009 manual at face value and would double-check with a dealer.

My 2011 FE 390 has the tall skinny window.
My spare parts manual shows the tall skinny window as well

For Carlos' benefit, would you please post the part number of that oil level window on your 390?

Thanks Ruger, you are right. Wiggy would you please post the part number.

I have told already to the mechanic of my dealer about the problem, looks like it is the first time they hear about this problem.

Tomorrow Monday they will talk to Husaberg Spain to see what they can do...!

I will keep you informed.

Cheers.

Carlos.

All the engine spare parts manuals for the FE 390's show the tall skinny window p/n 81238084044
Had a look at a 450 and 570 engine spare parts manual and it shows the circular window p/n 78030095000

Mine appears to be cracked but no signs of leaking. I have the tall skinny version of sight glass on my 09 450.

Today I received an answer from Husaberg Spain.

Looks like it is the first time they hear about this failure.

They said it could happened due to "big termal impact" like when you wade across a river with the "engine hot", well, how it is suppose to be the engine if I´m riding the bike...? or due to and impact directly to the window by a stone or a stick or in any fall. Well, I have never hit that place on a fall, I think it is really well protected to be damaged by a fall. It can be, but looks very remote possibility to me

Husaberg has changed the shape of the window, from the tall and skinny one to the round one in order to be easyer to see the oil level, not because the skinny one is weak.

At least this is what they said.

Because the bike has not been going to the official dealer for the checks service and now the "failure" has not been checked out by an official mechanic, the warranty will not cover it....!

The price of the "fuc..." window is 25 euros.

So that means I will have to open the crankcase by my self and to change that window, hoping that it will never happen again.

I´m really dissaponted about this.

Now, let see how long it will take the window to arrive....!

Since two ride days ago I´m using the Evans NPG+ coolant, now I´m wondering if the reason of having a crack on the oil window is beacuse of the higher temperature due to the Evans.

Do you think it can be the reason?

Because I have read that with the Evans the engine is running a bit hotter, is that right?

Too far and way too expensive to go to the dealer for regular maintenance. Impossible if your berg was your'e only transportation.

Get it fixed under the warrantee, that you paid for. Tell them the warrantee is why you bought a new bike.

In the meantime, so you can ride it, I'd clean it up with some denatured alcohol and then seal it with some rtv and let it sit for a day or two.

Hi Idle,

They were very clear on this, to be covered by the warranty it shall be checked and mainteined by an Official Dealer.

I will do it my self, not a problem. The only thing that worries me is to happend again.

And I don´t know if the Evans cooling has something to do with this problem.

What dou you mean with "rtv" for sealing it?
