Hi
Kris you have put me to think about this, and there was something strange about this, the cast numbers isn't a thing that you can easily change, so I went searching for the part numbers

This is what I've found about the engine cases part numbers (R/H-right hand, L/H-left hand):

== 89 - 96 ==
KICK ONLY
220 004 - 01 R/H - 89-93
220 040 - 01 R/H - 94-96
220 008 - 01 L/H - 89-96

WITH E-START
Right hand cases - no page, the doc has another page wrongly put there
220 031 - 01 L/H - 95-96
(my guess is that the first e-start was 95 ??)

== 97 - 98 ==
KICK ONLY
220 048 - 01 R/H
220 049 - 01 L/H

WITH E-START
220 046 - 01 R/H
220 047 - 01 L/H

== 99 - 2000 == (SEM-MKII)

=99=
KICK ONLY
220 059 - 01 R/H
220 049 - 01 L/H (97)

WITH E-START
220 058 - 01 R/H
220 047 - 01 L/H (97)

=2000=
KICK ONLY
????? R/H  (no number)
220 049 - 01 L/H (97)

WITH E-START
220 066 - 01 R/H
220 047 - 01 L/H (97)

So the cast numbers should be the part numbers
This will not give you the exact year, but it's a first step to determine it.

Congrats Kris :D I guess you have won a 97/98 engine

Hi and thanks P-son

Another to confirm the theory.

What would be nice was to have engine numbers of the same cc to compare the FE / FC / FX / FS versions.

Hi

Thanks Maddel, I thought maybe the 650 was the "65" and then the "1", "2" or "3", was FE/FC/FS ...

Maybe not ??, maybe all 650 are "651" ???

This is because I have seen one FC 470 with "472" and I had one set of casings that I've received from Taffy with "473", but I don't know from what bike it came.

Maybe with some more examples we will get to a conclusion ??

Did not know, that 501s were producet even in 2004, I thought they were discontinued in 2003.
501 from 2004: 4-800*01234*
Bike looks like any other 2004, in every detail (e.g. Bleed hole for water in head, 2-piece left cover).

Hi edelweiss

I also did not new, but thanks for your contribution, after I want to make a doc with all this info and need to have all the input from you guys to make it right.

Your engine number is already the ktm style, witch is:

X - XXX - XXXXX

X - Year - (In your case 4 - 2004)
XXX - Model - (in your case 800 - 501)
XXXXX - Serial

From the owners docs I only had 810-450cc, 815-550cc, 820-650cc, so this another number to add to the list.

Thanks a lot for your input, with the help of you guys we will get to a final conclusion 8)

Hello.
Bought an engine with engine number 4513004, no head bleeder screw and SEM system. Think it`s a 450 but not shure about the year, it have an magnetic plug behind the oil drain plug.

With both SEM system and magnetic plug it should be a -03 which as far as I know is the only year that featured SEM and magnetic plug. -02 SEM system with no magnetic plug, -04 Kokusan system with magnetic plug.

And if I use my eyes just a tad and read Zaga:s posts I come up with... 451 = 450cc, 3 = 2003 so my guess is that 004 means that your engine is nr 4 off the assembly line.

I've previously heard that it was only FS models during 2003 that had a magnetic plug, but when I checked the manual all models should have them. 2004 - 2008 all models has the magnetic plug. FWIW in 2002 there is a space in the casing that I think is where the plug is supposed to be, but they never drilled and tapped the hole...

Thanks
It`s a screw in the front of the engine to lock it i upper dead position, so its a mix of different years of parts i Think.

that bolt is missing in leter model engies.
no way to lock it as it says in the manual...

I have 3 engines:
2003 650 has the bolt/hole
2005 450 has the bolt/hole
2006 650 missing the bolt/hole

Hi Jampe

This is new one to me !! one 450 from 2003 ??
Never eared, but I guess with husaberg anything is possible

Well 451 would be one FE450 and the 3 - 2003.

The number structure is pre-2004 all right.

Yes and the magnetic plug is 2003, probably you also have the bleeder in the head.

Do you have FCR or dellorto ?

One 450 with SEM ??? Can you check the number that is written in the coil?

Your bike must be a rare one :D

Husaberg never stops to amaze me !!

Hi P-son

On your 2006 the bolt is on the flywheel side, you just take out the pickup coil and check under it.

Hi Bushie

For me the head cover is the same 01-03, only the rockers change in 03, but I think the cover stays the same ???

I'm not completely sure of this.

The head changes in 04, you can see that in 04 it has one bleeder bolt for the coolant.

I've told you that yours is a 02 because the gears of the left side (clutch, starter, ....) are different from 01 and can not be mixed, also the drive shaft of the counter balancer changed from 01 to 02, and as you know the counterbalance changed during 02 to double bearing, witch one is yours ?

the 06 rocker cover I have does not have the cutout for the NOS injector

so its probably 04 -08 don't have the NOS   port

definitely also there is no oil passage drilled in the ones with newer rockers so again 04-08 ?

the counterbalancer sorry I don't know.. I didn't buy it with the cases

Zaga.
I only bought the engine with two new SEM flywheels and two new ICU10 marked 855 191 13 / 250255-01 it`s for FC470 no carb and the old style of transmission cover but got one magnesium clutch cover in the box too.
The guy who sold it has been a Swedish Army Lion driver, a mc show group in the Swedish army and they drove Husabergs the last years the group was active.
Got info now from the former owner, it have been a FC470 4 gear, its now 450 6 gear with FC cylinderhead and -03 cases built by Roland Öhrn a famous Husaberg guru here in sweden.
This is the bike we use now in FMCK and Army, old Husqvarna four speed automatic.

Hi Jampe

Your engine has quite a long story :D

Where did you find that coil number ? The ones that I've got for the FC470 are 250269-01 and 250288-01 ?

Those new SEM parts are a great finding !! And probably came very cheap ... well done !

Also do you know if the new clutch cover that you also got is the 04 or is it some special part ? And if it is 04, do you think it can be fit in to the 03 casing ?

Can you post pictures ?
