Engine number placement

I'm away from my bike at the moment, and I'm having my dad to find the engine number. Where is that situated on a 04 model?
 
The engine number is embossed on the engine case on the left side of the engine below the radiator hose. Its really hard to see because of the exhaust kind of hiding it.

It was straight behind the exhaust he told me.. Impossible to see :)
 
Here in California it is also listed on the Title and registration card ssued by the state.

So it is here, but my bike is NOT registered, so obviously no DVLA/DMV documents :)
