engine noise when hot

Hey guys, just picked up a 2010 390 on thursday and took it for a break in/ shake down ride last night. The bike is absolutely amazing but when it gets hot the motor knocks pretty loud.If i stop and let it cool down it goes away but as soon as it gets hot again it knocks and it is only at idle. if i bring the revs up goes away. maybe cam chain tensioner? not sure. any insight would appreciated,

My buddy has a '09 KTM 400 and his cam chain adjuster was failing. It sounded like a ticking, not a knocking. That's why I had the Dirt Tricks tensioner installed before I rode my 390. Have it checked out before it's too late!

I kinda figured it might be that but its a pretty deep knock and very pronounced when hot. I started it this morning after sitting overnight and its wisper quiet. Guess i will have bring it back to the dealer this week. who knows maybe the sound is normal?

would be good to know the out come, please post again once you know the problem/or not..

the bike is going to the dealer on thursday morning. were gonna compare it to the demo have they have which has close to 600 miles on it. so we'll see how it goes! i I will post up the outcome? By the way, what is delo 400?

Search "Delo400" or "Delo 400" on this forum. There is heaps of info on it as posts come up all the time about it.
It is a Diesel Truck Engine oil made by Chevron (Caltex in Australia) that seems to work excellent in the old school (pre 09) Husaberg engines according to the users here. Even the clutch apparently feels better with Delo 400.
Thats what I have learnt from lurking on this forum a lot.

I hope you fix your bike OK. I love mine

Gotcha on delo400, over hear in the states alot of guys are using shell rotella diesel engine oil in their 4 strokes. especially the guys running rekluse clutch's. I know lots of guys are running different oil brands and weight in their bikes with no issues.

Well, brought the bike to the dealer yesterday morning, we compared the bike at operating temp too a brand newbike and their demo. My bike and the brand new one sounded the same when hot, so i guess this is normal and thats fine, just needed to know for my own piece of mind. Both my yamahas hot or cold sounded the same so i was a little worried. Their demo on the other hand sounded horrible. The motor was super loud and the timing chain tensioner was ticking away. I guess i'll just have to pay attention to the tensioner as time goes on. First enduro on the new bike this sunday so wish me luck!

Good luck matey, nice line up of off road bikes you have, does that mean you are half decent or just loaded? :D

Thanks, no those are previous bikes i've owned, certaintly not loaded! LOL! The 250f was my favorite to the berg so far!

Was it a mooing noise or more of a clippety clop or did it sound more mechanical?

It's kind of a clipping noise. I will check the chain first, then the springs (I want double valve spring anyways).

It didn't sound that bad this morning , ? I had like 100 cows on my track.

Brokeback was the the tip of the iceberg.

hey bud, you need a dirttricks camchain tensioner it will solve all your noise issues, ktm copied it for there '13 model engines..why do you want double valve springs? have you changed the cam lift/duration? if not your just going to hammer out your valves quicker..

(kdr500 trolling)?? obviously does not understand dvsk. two springs does not mean more pressure my friend. Read up about specs before your comments mislead people.

thanks.
