Hi,

I had problem with my bike.
When I bought it after few rides, when I changed the engine oil I found a piece of gear tooth.
It was tooth from primary gear.
Wright now after 40mth I found next piece of tooth in oil. This time is from gear from balancer shaft.
Why is it happened?
Material fatigue?
Factory defect?
Does this type have it?

Below the pics with both of gears. Second pic with broken tooth.

In my opinion just bad luck
manufacturing an designing high quality gears is very very complex process (recently got a book about it)
and i think for a small manufacturer its very likely to something go wrong even if ktm is in charge.
I'm wondering if factory ordered it from subcontractor, maybe someone knows ?

Hope you manage to fix it quick and go back to ride ;)

if something hard (eg gear fragment or tappet adjuster nut, auto decomp stop bolt or cam chain bits) got caught between the teeth it could have damaged the clutch ring gear or got stuck on the clutch ring gear

be a good idea to check every tooth on the clutch as well

its possible also that someone used a hard metal object to jam between the gears working on the engine at some stage which cracked the first gear long ago
