engine died

Hi everyone. I own a 2003 501 FE and yesterday, after 4h riding with no issues the engine died while climbing a hill. Felt a sudden loss of power like it had no gas. I had like 1/3 of the tank full, so it wasnt the problem. Then after trying kick starting and electric starting it (killing the bat in the process) I gave up and decided to push the bike uphill (good workout ) and bump starting it on a higher sloped road on the other side. It did start but as soon as I pulled the clutch lever or let go of the throttle the engine died. While it was working I could rev the engine. So I ended pushing the bike home for 10km...
I charged the bat again during the night and still could not start the bike today.
Usually the bike starts fine using the kickstart from cold or hot, electric start just hot if I'm lucky.
Do you think the spark plug may be the problem here? I own the bike for 4 years and since I dont ride much it was never replaced.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Yes it is a good idea to change the plug. I think you might have picked up dirt or something in your fuel as it runs at higher rpm and no idle. Try cleaning the carb.

I think your stator may have had it. you need to disconnect the 6 wires from the stator and measure the resistances
green to black 170 ohms (first clicker '20')
red to black 2,700 ohms (third clicker '20k')

Bad news :'(
1. Open circuit between green and black wires. Red and black measured 174 ohms. One of the wires that went to the rectifier was burnt and corroded... I will look for a local shop to rewind it now.

2. Broken tank. There is a hole on top of the left mount. The sealant that the previous owner used was dry and the only thing that stopped the leakage was the pressure from the tank on that mount. I will try to find a stronger sealant, maybe epoxy glue??

3. Found a loose wire, seems from kick auto decomp?? pls confirm:

Took the carb out for cleaning during this week and couldn't check the spark plug since the tool and the new plug didnt arrive yet.

One by one I will get everything fixed. At least I learn how to work on the bike!
Thanks for the help!

i wouldn't go to any trouble repairing that broken cable. the one on the handlebar is the only decomp you need.
