Dismantled my 2005 550 recently. 129hrs

After thrashing it all year, I was suprised to find little wear

Ring gap was within normal limit ( But replace anyway )
Timing chain stretched like an old rubber band
Piston and sleeve normal no major scratches
Clutch friction plates 2 distorted ( To many 3rd gear starts )
Inlet valves worn badly on seat face ( replace )
Crank bearings are OK but replace.

Yet to check big and little end bearings ?
Very pleased so far

But i did notice on the last few races the the Berg seemed FLAT on 3/4 to full throttle

What would cause this.
Maybe valve adjustment, big end bearing ?

that's a DID chain you had in there. get the '04 IWIS chain and don't settle for anything less.

watch the little end bush although as a 2005 you should be ok.

can't say why it shoul feel flat except that if the valve timing got retarded it should have had a whole in the middle and not at the top.

Hi, Taffy

Timing was ok, out a little due to the chain ( would that be problem ?)
Still pulled like a freight train down low
I just noticed it was not as responsive as it was erlier in the year.
Do put it down to general wear and tear ?

Anyway its getting rebuilt at the moment, Also lined up a guy to port the head and dyno the bike after rebuild so that should sort out any probs.

have a good look at the rockers for any signs of wear , the power loss could be down to the worn valves .

you are attempting two things at once. if the tuning is flat at the top you will be totally stumped on what to blame? my advice is NOT to tune it until someone sees (they don't have to ctually do the repair) the problem "in their informed opinion"!

Whosahberg, The top end is in excellent condition no signs of wear what so ever
Thats why im scratching my a little.
I should have explaned in a lttle more detail
The bike still pulled hard to WOT
But it just seemed to flaten out at a lower RPM than before....

Taff your right, I have got the right man on the job at the moment ( OrangeBerg )

Oh you guys will get a laugh out of this
When you knock out the main bearing outer make sure you remove the Counterbalance/idle shaft ( Expensive mistake ) Doh
Chiped a tooth of it

i am wondering what kind of wear should I look for on the piston.
that's my problem... :D if one day i will rebuild the engine i won't be able to understand which parts need to be replaced and which are good

the solution is simple SIR .. remove the items in question and get a '' expert '' to give you his opinion .
