electric start reliablility

Mine works 95% of the time. Even from cold.
I'm running a slightly smaller 100 amp battery now aswell abd it's still fine.
If the bike is left unused and bot on charge for 2 weeks. It needs a kick first off. But once in our on the lanes, it's on the button every time. Which is probably 30+ times on a single day out with all the stop starts and the stalls I have haha
I have a larger starter motor though and a new stator fitted wired in a better way. 2001 fe650 [emoji106]

Little dawg the bike will start fine if you make sure the valve clearances are right = learn to do them yourself AND do them regularly if you are still on the original valve springs which are single tapered springs. you'll see this the first time you do them. watch videos on youtube and use the 1/6th of a turn method.

Golden rule, always morse code the arm and must hear the tick-tick at the rear licence plate just and no further!

you can improve the original jetting to improve starting.

if the gears slip in the cover I have a 'starter repair kit' and a good 12v 7amp gel-cel battery is vital.

because the OEM valve springs are so harsh, the heads can fall off the exhaust valves very occasionally on the 450. the wear these cause means that valve clearances need continuous checking every second ride.

keeping to semi-synthetic oil also helps the two cogs working.

the 650 starter motor is possibly weaker than a 2007 OEM starter!

My view is you should consider the e start a race re start. Meaning never use it unless in the heat of battle! I always kick start and only e start when racing when bike silly warm and I am stalled or at check point when I am stuffed. The only other time to use it is when a very cute girl is looking and you don't want to look silly. If it does not kick start after two kicks hit the button and eye ball her as she will know you could have used the button any time but are prepared to do the things the hard way....ie save money to spend on her?

I was wondering who is the longest coninued husaberg rider in the world........and should this be extended to swedish build husqvarna?

My 08 FE450 would start on the button cold or hot....the only time i kicked it was if i neglected the battery.

I used the button exclusively on my ‘05 650, save one or two times the battery was flat from sitting. I would also add in addition to proper jetting and keeping the valves in check, FCR pilot jets need to be clean in order for these beasts to start happily on the button. (kicking a 650 with a buggered pilot jet is no fun at all)

My FE650e never button started well. I hate kick starting my FE650 since I have broken off the kick starter shaft three times. So I saw somewhere that a Honda CB600 starter would fit with a modified bracket. Now my bike starts every time with the new starter. It is like night and day.

Have an 07 650 and always use the starter, no problem except on occasion when it's at TDC, then I just pull in the decomp. Other than that when the fan runs the battery flat, but have just fitted a Trail tech stator to solve that problem.

Otherwise If I have to, it kick starts easy, as long as I wear riding boots.

Does any One Know if you can replace the fiber disc in the gear wheel torque limiter..?
