HELP NOT ANOUTHER ELECTRIC START PROBLEM
HELP CAN ANYONE PLEASE ANSWER ME A QUESTION.HOW DO I GET THE
ELECTRIC START TO WORK.
I HAVE A 2003 HUSABERTG 650.
ALL THE USUALS HAVE BEEN CHECKED THE VALVES THE CARB THE DECOMP.
IT TURNS OVERFAST THEN SLOW WHEN IT REACHES THE COMPRESSION STROKE THE BATTERY IS THE UPGRADE TYPE BUT I CANNOT TELL IF THE STARTER IS THE MORE BEEFED UP TYPE OR THE OLDER ONE.
IS THERE A KIT YOU CAN BUY TO UPGRADE TO THE LATER SPEC MODELS.
AS I HAVE HAD A FEW HUSABERGS ONE WITHOUT ELECTRICSTART AND ONE WITH BOTH 400 THE ELECTRIC ALWAYS STARTED OK .
AS THIS IS MY FIRST LISTINGS ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT MANY THANKS.

Welcome to the UHE.

Try using the handle bar mounted manual decompresser to get the engine turning over nicely with the electric starter and then gradually release the manual decompresser. It should start as you release the manual decompresser. If it doesn't start then and the engine doesn't continue to turn with the e-start then you may have to replace the automatic e-start mechanism with the 06/07 model for the 650.

Let us know!

Regards,

Joe

DEAR SIR

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY I WILL GIVE IT A GO TOMORROW AND WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW I GO ON.

KIND REGARDS

yep! it's the ecomp lobe IMHO!

it did it to mine but instead of curing it i threw it off the bike! joe may know exactly why, not sure myself:decomp lobe?, spring tension too little?

regards

Taffy

Mr Magoo Sir
Firstly ensure you have released the tensioner where the manual decomp lever goes into the head, thus allowing the flat side of the half circle shaped bar to push flat on the rocker arm. Then adjust your valves and check them whilst pushing the bar flat to the rocker arm. This will confirm your exhaust valves are set correctly and that you are getting the required lift.... Do this, then get back to us.
Regards
Ady

THANKS FOR THE REPLY.
THE VALVES HAVE BEEN SET CORRECTLY. THE ARM IS SET CORRECT TO. I HAVEN'T HAD THE BIKE LONG WHEN I WENT TO COLLECT IT IT STARTED GREAT AS I BOUGHT IT AS A PROJECT AND NEEDED TO GET IT BACK ON THE ROAD I HAVNT STARTED IT.
WHEN I CAME TO START IT IT COUGHED AND SPLUTTERED BUT EVENTUALLY IT STARTED,SO AD THE VALVES READJUSTED CARB C LEANED ,NEW PLUG AND NEW FUEL,I NO THAT THE ELECTRIC STARTS ARNT BRILLIANT ON THESE BIKES I CAN LIVE WITH THAT ITS JUST I WILL BE USING THE BIKE TO GO TO WORK ON AND THE ODD TRACK DAY.
I TRIED FOR ABOUT FOUR HOURS YESTERDAY TO START IT AND WITH SOME MESSING ABOUT IT EVENTUALLY STARTED.BUT IT DIDN'T START WITH THE CHOKE ON WHEN YOU GET IT STARTED IT RUNS GREAT, BUT WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO START IT WITH THE CHOKE ON IT JUST BACKFIRES THROUGH THE CARB.
CAN ANYONE HELP MANY THANKS.

Has the bike the Dellorto carb?
If so, it's vital to set up the idle and mixture screw correct.

Also check out the jetting.
Try a smaller pilot jet.

I kickstart my '02 650 Berg and only use the choke at temperatures
below 20 deg. C (68 F). Otherwise it won't start.

In addition I don't touch the throttle while starting.

By the way, I completely removed the electric RE starter system.

what I do is kickstart cold and use the button when warm.I fought with jetting for quite awhile, finally sent it to Dale.Everything now seems hunkydory! It runs a lot cooler, smootherand starts second kick cold.Having replaced my starter system(major expense)I will not use the button when cold,I really dont want to rebuild that again!
