Electric Start problem on a 05 fe450

Not sure where to put this question as it is both electrical and mechanical. I have a 05 fe450e with less than 100hrs on it and once hot can't get more than a revolution and a half with the button before it loses steam.

The bike will kick start easily withn one kick, but can't get the power out of the estart to spin the engine when hot. Cold the estart spins fine. On other symptom is occationally, when cold the solinoid has trouble engaging on one of ten cold starts.....

Things I've done:

1) installed new Battery - no benifit
2) checked the charging circuit - its within specifications (dealer checked)
3) checked Starter windings - its within specifications (dealer checked)
4) no unusual metal bits in the screen or on the megnetic plug

Now I'm at a loss. Is there a possible mechanical binding issue that causes friction when the bike is hot?

Thanks in advance for your help!

David

your valves is the most obvious one. try to get a fresh face to checvk them over.

secondly, i believe that you have two decomps. one is auto on the cam and the other is kickstart. i have a third!!! which is manual decomp.

it could be that when you kick it, you use the one connected to the kicker. when you leccy it, you're ok when it's cold but not when warm due to the tappets being too tight.

the leccy can't fight tight tappets and with the auto rdecomp not helping much...

get the tappets set and then see. get the decomp cable tolerances spot on.

watch for the plug being the wrong one/old.

The valves were adjusted less than 200km ago by the dealer. But should be looked at again.

Try using your handle bar decomp lever to help get the engine spinning when using the e-start.

When it is spinning then release the handle bar decomp lever and it should start.

Let us know.
