Hi! So I have a FE 400 E Berg. And i think i might have the stock battery, but still the elctric start just can't start the engine. It's tee weak, and when the piston reaches the tdc the electric start just dies. Too much compression for the starter. So, what would i do to make the electric starter work?

sounds like the autodecomp is either worn or the spring is unwound or shot. remove the cam cover at tdc and examine the tip of the decomp for wear. also push the decomp counterweight away from the resting position and see that it easily returns. your problem is in there somewhere.
another thing to consider is that the exhaust valves are way too loose.

First and foremost I would replace the battery with a new one. If its the original battery it probably should have been replaced 6 or 7 years ago. The battery on these bikes is quite large and can be upgraded with a Yuasa YTZ10s or YTZ12s but they are heavier batteries. Go to the Yuasa site, get the dimensions of the battery and check them against your battery box.

If you are able to start the bike with a jump from a car battery then you are fairly assured that the battery is the problem. These first generation bikes e-started very well even with the autodecompression device not functioning prioperly.

Sorry Ned, I did not mean to contradict you.I hit the post button immediately after you. Your advice is on the money. On my first gen 600 the decomp was nonfunctional but with a good battery it would still crank and fire.

If i push the decomp counterweight away from resting position, should it decompress the cylinder? Because if it does, then the electric starter would have a chance, because there aren't so much compression? :D
How i can see if the tip of decomp is weared? Because i've had problems with the decomp, it has got "stuck" or something and i've lost compression. And where does the decomp spring locate?

Oh, and the "automatic" decomp from the kickstarter is removed. Not by me though...

Do you think that a new battery could do the trick? I've already charged the battery, but it didn't help. Can you say something about the prices of those Yuasa batteries?

There must be something f***** up in the decomp... I don't know any other reason why it wouldn't start! I think that the cable moves smoothly and everything is fixed up, but just no compression! What to do?

Problem "solved"... I think that the battery is almost as good as it should be but the probem seems to be in the wiring :|
When i push the start button, all i hear is crackling noice (i don't know the right word for it) but sounds like electricity :D The source of sound seems to be wiring... But now and then the electricstarter kicks a bit, so maybe it's just a small disorder in the wiring joints?
Really sorry about the english :D I can't handle all the mechanical words so well...

Still lacking compression, any help?
