Pickerington OH home of the AMA
I rode in the 77mi. little burr vintage race yesterday. was considering the 200 mi race today so I wanted to check out some of the trails before deciding. My 99 fe400e wasn't the newest bike there.....LOL. 55 mi. into the trail the bike just dies, will not restart kicking or button. battery goes dead quick. Before i go any further...I haven't taken the bike off the truck yet, nothing has been looked at. The way it died it has to be electrical, could be as simple as a kill switch and i'm not ruling out stator. question is whats the best way to check the stator? i have done it on other bikes taking resistance levels between stator leads. Is that the most accurate way? and if so, what should the values be? I haven't looked in the docs yet.........Sunday morning, just sat down here with my first cup of coffee, and bike is still in bed of truck getting washed with the rain, and i'm feeling all of the little bumps and bruises.....LOL. Anyway, the this event was cool as hell. not a point race....just a fun run, but over some of the same trails as the AMA race today. I rode in the sportsman class with my berg and the guys I rode with had an 83 it 490 and an 02 Kawasaki klx 200. the guy riding the IT placed 4th and he lost his odometer (a ktm od) between check points 2 and 3. before the race i got to speak to John Penton and his son Jack. I didn't see him riding, but i heard he was gonna ride a portion of the race, guys he's 83 yrs old. they brought several mint condition Penton's, and they are very approachable people. This was the first year for the vintage at the little burr, I was running late leaving the house and forgot my camera, but i'll make sure it's with me next year.i saw 2 pugh's a mint 57' bsa 500 that leaked like a sieve......sorry Taffy..........LOL. Several old metal tank yamaha dt's, a few Pe's, counted 10 elsinore's. someone had a triumph 750 not sure what model it was as I saw it behind me at the start line. Most of the older bikes where huskies and Penton's.....go figure. it was a great event whether you were riding or not......even tho I was disqualified for not finishing I'll be there next year. they invite all the past winners of the" little burr enduro" that they can(this years event was the 50th anniversary, of the 200 mi event). No, i'm not one of them............LOL
