Over the winter I sent the clutch out of my 01 fe650 out to Gary at EFM for an auto clutch conversion. The turnaround time was very quick and the clutch came back looking like a work of art. Instructions were clear and the instalation was very simple. I was told I may need to do some grinding on the inner side of the clutch cover but everything bolted up fine. Today I fired it up and took a quick ride on it ( coolant pissing out the water pump gasket cut my ride short). It looks like the clutch is set up perfectly with his factory settings. I've converted the clutch lever to a Left Hand Rear Brake using the stock magura cylinder and a line from Spiegler. I'll try and update this with some ride reports. The plan is to ride the nastier D/S rides with it and some fun single track.
Off to fix a leak :D

I've heard great things about EFM auto clutches.

Keep us posted on how it is working out.

Ride report:

I did a 200km dual sport ride on the bike yesterday. Conditions were wet withh on and off rain on terrain ranging from deep mud to sand and wet loose rocks. We have had a very cold, wet spring here and there were a few areas that still had packed ice. At the end of the ride we found a bit of tight single track to play on.

The brakes... The left hand conversion with the stock master cylinder works very well, I might still have a bit of air in the line as it got soft now and again. I'll get this bled out. I feel the m/c has more than enough stopping power, I'll see how the seals hold up with the silicone based fluid.

The clutch:
I really like this clutch, it performed very well right out of the box. It really makes riding this beast a lot easier. I wasn't near as tired at the end of the day. I did notice that it will slip if I get way up in the gears and I'm going slow but this is driver error. I guess part of it is the berg does have the power whereas a smaller bike would just stop. On the rocky uphills and snotty stuff, the clutch is magic at keeping the bike moving. In the singletrack with the left hand brake the bike is fantastic but it does wear you out. I'm much faster on my husky cr250 but I'm still going to keep practicing with the berg. I think part of getting worn out was that the single track was at the end of our riding day. It was a day of fast riding, the bike never stalled once and there were no get offs :D . I'm very pleased with the bike and the clutch. It got me thinking a new 501 with a Rekluse and a throttle tamer might just be about the perfect all rounder. (I'm a sucker for fuel injection). I'm still about 10 thousand short on this though
