e start removal

I'm thinking that the best way to drop weight off the 'berg is to remove the complete e-start system. I know people have done it. How much do you guys remove, and who has weighed the removed parts? Are you replacing the wiring harness as well?

i weight it before about 3,5-4kg+the weight of the battery.
my husaberg 650 2004 supermoto weight fully 127kg.
I don't think that that few kilos make you 5 seconds faster on the track.
just my idea.
gasoline 0,7 kg for 1 litre.

tm-enduro,

If you don't mind spending a little money to loose some of the weight, you could go with an aftermarket exhaust. I am using the original head pipes with a Big Gun system. I haven't weighed the Big Gun setup but I am positive that it is over half the weight of the stock. The stock silencer and 2 into 1 collector is 7.7 lbs. I figure I drop 4 lbs. I have kick only, so I can't help with the e-start, but my manual says the kick only model is 7.6 kg's less. That's 16.72 lbs. So if you drop the e-start and put an aftermarket exhaust you could possibly drop 20 lbs. These figures are on a '99 FE400.

Madero, every pond counts when you are threading the bike thru trees at speed. I know I want it all with 125 weight and 500cc hp.

Newby, I have a Big gun exhaust for my current 'berg, honestly it is too loud for offroad use, but that is a good way t odrop lbs.

Heck, I would even drop the CB to drop weight, Dale says it is unnecessary. Now if I could jsut afford Ti springs for the suspension, that would drop more weight. You wouldn't beleive the effort we go to to drop weight off our deep powder snowmobiles!

I've got the e-start related parts out on the bench now assessing whether or not to drop the system. The parts are surprisingly light. The battery, battery box, starter, and two internal gears is only about 10 to 12 lbs. I will post when I weigh them on a reliable scale (so far I am using my food scale.

hi guys,

today I have just replaced my complete e-start system.
Why should I carry things that do not work?
Tomorrow I´ll weigh all the things.
I have also replace the complete wiring harness.
Now I ride in MX style.
My bike had 119kg with almost full tank,
I expect now a weight of 114kg.
Let´s see.

greetings
