took the steed up to R & S performance today before moving on to see my friend in hospital. Sean is a long time friend and we are both good friends to the above so i killed two birds with one stone.
i was there just to meddle a bit and check out my jetting hunches. don't forget it may be a FE400e from '02 but it has the '53' MX cam and a keihin carb fitted. started with std silencer at 35.7 rwbhp.
i had 37.5 RWBHP at the end.
the FC/FX pipe only gained .7 bhp through the midrange which hardly makes it worth it but at least it's actually no noisier than the FE pipe anyway.
the larger downpipes from the 550 (28 id as opposed to 26 id) produced a free 1-2 bhp all the way up to 3/4 throttle
the power curve is like a plateau from 6,000 to the redline.
the main jet came down on this fine crispy clear morning to 160MJ from 162 and should never need to go higher-especially in the summer. ground level and zero degrees celsius.
the needle which was an F** test needle was raised from 5 to clip 5.5 using a washer.
tried a 42PJ with my special needle and it was too rich so went back to the 38PJ. from my results i will be going back to try the 'E' series again back to back with the 'special' as i lost power at 3/4 throttle due to being too rich even though the MJ was correct.
i will wlso try increasing the MAJ size to lean the top end. i'm presently on a #180 which i fitted whilst running the standard '01' cam.
adjusted the cam timing (retarded) and it was poorer. may try advancing it sometime if i can afford the back to back time.
TBM tested a knobbly shod '02 standard (and rather new) husey at 32rwbhp. and it had a steep bhp curve where mine had a plateau from 6-10,000 revs. that's why i want a little peak infact. i can be in any gear and lug but it used to be like a two-stroke!
so that's it really. the needle was a success but i will try for more.
ONE THING IT DOES PROVE THOUGH IS THAT MY "seat-of-the-pants" TESTING HAS BEEN VALIDATED.
regards
