Dyno readout

Hi, got my bike on the dyno on Sunday so thought I may as well share the results with you. Helps to show where max power is so any one with a tacho knows where to change.

Bike is a 2004 FS450e which is standard other than a Rino can with 501 header pipes (and apparently some miled porting by previous owner but DCR didn't pick up on this so I doubt it). All of my jetting was pretty good apart from it didn't like low throttle inputs much but I don't mind that. Heres the printout.

48.1bhp at the back wheel from a 450. I think thats pretty good going, what do you think? I was expecting 40 something and would of been dissapointed if it started with a 3 but I'm happy with this, apparently I could of got 50 with a better adjusted chain too :D

Got a typical single torque curve too, nice and flat lol.

you are nowhere near the theoretical redline of your mo-sheen. max power at 8,500 and the show is over by 9,500. that is 2,000 revs below where it should be working.

Its supposed to rev to 11k? Seems a little high to me for a single. If its meant to be making the power higher up, why does it run out at 8500?

The chap who did it looked up what he was supposed to stop revving at and he said it was 9k so he got one of those tachos that clip on the HT lead and shut off at 9k ish.

You reckon theres a problem if its making peak power lower down then?

it just means there's at least one blockage, could be more. what do you want me to say? i asked in a new thread here last week what was the red line of the 650 and the answer came back that it was 8,500 revs, look up the subject?

then i worked out all the other redlines as well....

Remember that a dyno is a tool for checking the shape of the curves and the relativity of the before and after. My 650 now puts out 43 hp on the Dyno Dynamics it was tuned on, but it started at 33! So I got 1/3 increase, and for bragging rights it supposedly equates to <> 63 dynojet hp. My starting point included a Lineaweaver jet kit and the tuning included an end cap mod. Pics in my gallery.

Bottom line is don't worry about the numbers, how does it ride and did the dyno work achieve an improvement?

I didn't have any work done, just a run to see where the power was at. The curve is much smoother than my mates ZX6R and R6 was and a little smoother than a mapped K7 GSXR 1000.

Why does the dyno dynamics dyno read so low compared to others? Surely they should all be about the same?

The people there thought my bike was running pretty well as it was and there isn't too much to be gained.

Taffy, what do you mean when something could be blocked? I didn't expect that at all as I think it's a pretty healthy figure considering most 650's only make another 10hp or so.

my 400 makes 42BHP on a dynojet 250. i have no idea how that compares but it's all working fine.

blockage? your bike should be seen as a series of valves ready to be opened to let more air/mixture through. the skill is knowing which is the worst blockage and going from there.

'2,000 revs below where it should be working' ?!!!? That is highly doubtful. Max power at 8,500 rpm sounds about right. What's the point in revving it much past 9,500 rpm?

48 HP is a good strong number for a stock 450, however the torque/HP curves should intersect at 5,250 rpm rather than 4,400 rpm. What's up with that?

RE: Re: RE: Dyno readout

I don't think the torque and bhp bits are in sequence if you know what I mean. My mates peak torque was at 60 on the power side at 6.0 kgm whereas mine is at 25bhp but 4.2kgm if you know what I mean.

Also, 11k for my bike is way too high I think. If you think that the smaller cc is it the giher it revs, what revs did your 400 make 42bhp at Taffy? I very much doubt it was over 9k personally.

this is the only sheet i have left on computer and was done on knobblies and i have a lot more power now. it shows 38bhp and a knobbly is worth 4hp.

it's a very broad curve. my ducati had a 58mm stroke and in 1981 we revved that to 10,500 redline when the MPS was 4,000ft per min. now it's 4,500ft per minute and your stroke is less at 57mm.

so sorry, 11,000 revs should be the target.

Taffy, that picture is not very clear and you didn't say where peak power was?

i'm not saying anything else. yada yada yada. it's there now go find it.

it's the middle of three sheets from that day and the third went to 38.1bhp. it's a dynojet 150 actually. it's in my gallery and a little clearer there but even i can see 37.7bhp and i use glasses!

Taffy, I'm not arguing about what peak power was. I'm asking what revs it makes it at, I can't see that from your printout.

just a comparision if interested.
the new slant motor fe450 hangs in there a bit longer, even though the power of both drops off about 8000rpm
we still haven't got a match up between a 650 & a 570 yet have we?

Thats interesting to see the new 450 dyno showing the 3 mappings.

The 09 FE570 reads HP/RPM 48.6/7,850 and NM/RPM 48.1/6,200 when totally stock/standard.

I dont see anything wrong with Carls read out, he has simply cut the dyno at 9,500.
Otherwise it would read like popups 450, revving out somewhere between 10-11.
