went to help and marshall, spent 6 hour riding around a forest in torrential rain with no goggles. am now sat at home watching world supermoto, have cramp in both legs and 2 bloodshot eyes
good course with some really technical climbs.
for probably the first time i used the hi/lo ingnition, usually i just leave it in lo.
flicked it to hi (more bottom end) for the climbs and the just grunted up them in 2nd. then back to low (for higher speeds) for the tracks and downs.
quite a few people getting stuck.
towed out one lad from the middle-of-nowhere who had burnt out his clutch and having seen the timecards stacked up at the finish would estimate 50% of the entry pulled out or houred out.
about 10 championship class riders including Tom Sagar, those who went to the canadian and us wec rounds wil know him form his junior wec podiums.
His day didn't start well as the top 6 riders ended-up overtaking the 2 riders who were meant to be opening the course and had to open gates themselves as a result they lost time and were not happy bunnies. this time was scrubbed though as barring a mechanical there was nothing that was going to coast them time on the first lap.
second lap Sagar was out. he'd lost his front brake and had to lay the bike down to avoid doing a Buzz Lightyear - to infinity and beyond - off a quick stretch of track.
as the day went on and the rain kept pouring less and less people were circulating, the combined expert/championship class had there laps reduced to 3.
the event is also 2 rounds of the british side-car championship which sees the charioteers charging round the forest attempting to get around a track that was bringing solos to a halt.
some rather amusing moments where when one pairing had a domestic half way around the special test, which ended when the passenger got off and walked away leaving the driver and bike in the middle of the test and when we found a rather irrate pair wondering around the woods having got lost on top of this before the event they were the championship leaders.
on a downside found a friends husaberg 650 powered unit broken down on the side of the track. no idea why as they'd got a lift back to the paddock.
having done my bit i returned to the paddock and watched from the burger van as people tried to get out of the paddock. the local farmer could have bought a new tractor if he'd been charging those he pulled out.
after getting changed in the rain it was my turn to go. get the car rolling down hill, into second, little accelerator and out thru the 6" of mud i went, steering with my knee as i was eating a pack of crisps.
thats how i ended up at home with cramp watching some bloke called girolami doing quite well on a berg in the S2 (500+) world supermoto class.
opps as i typed above the screen credits showed girolami as retired from the race.
for day 2 i didn't make it as i'm sat at home updating this post with a cup of tea and some toast.
