I would consider the effect of adding heat to the fuel.

sorry, your going to have to explane that!

A lot of bikes have a problem with the fuel boiling. My FE650E drove me nuts until I figured out what was happening.

Depending on the blend (which changes with the season and geographical location), gasoline can boil as low as 100 degrees ...... FAHRENHEIT!

So reflective heat shielding is one solution, stick it so that it's between fuel tank surfaces and anything hot.

Painting the tank black will have the opposite effect - it will absorb heat from sunlight or nearby hot surfaces much more readily. Like having a black shirt on a sunny day versus a white one!

although it doesn't affect the engine running, when i stop in direct sunlight (in az, it's really sunlight. even in winter), with a fairly full tank and a clarke tank, i can see bubbles coming from the clear vent hose.

Well here in blighty (England) boiling fuel isnt much of a problem :D

Iv given this a go on a spare tank I had..

Now has anyone got any carbon fibre rad scoops :D :D

I'm also keen to do this on my spare tank - it looks great!

How'd you do it?

Well, I'd love to take the credit for this but I cant, I just adapted this to work for me.

Being in the UK and its -2c outside I had a old bin and used a Tesco value kettle element to heat the water took about 3 hours the heat, got it to 90c for about 2 hours, I also lagged the bin to keep the heat in.
I used a disperse dye from Kemtex here in the UK, the one HollywoodMX uses in the link is Rit dye which is a multipurpose dye and common in the US, you could also use Dylon mulitpurpose dye.

The heat is the main factor with the disperse dye, it won't work below 85c you end up with a green tank.

am impressed.

when i started reading the thread i was thinking "why?" but to be fair its looks like its come out really well.

have you scratched a concealed area to see how deep the dye has penetrated?
